This section controls how the album web pages are generated and what kinds of images to generate.

Image linking from thumbnails

Linking depends on download protection which should be turned off for the following to hold true. For skin Turtle uncheck "Right click protection for images" on Settings/Turtle/Advanced/General

Link to scaled-down images only

Thumbnails will link to scaled-down images (web size). The image bounds are set in ‘Settings/Images/General/Image bounds’. Original images and hi-res images are not included as part of the album.

Link to hi-res* via scaled images

Thumbnails still link to the scaled down images, but hi-res images are included in the album. The size of the hi-res images are limited to a maximum of 2048 x 2048 pixels. Note, when using skins that are not JavaScript based, ‘Make Slide pages’ (below) should be checked, otherwise there will be no links in the album to the hi-res images. Hi-res images are normally accessed from a link on the associated scaled down image’s slide page, however some skins may show it as a download button or not even support hi-res images.

Link to originals

Thumbnails link to the original image, the image bounds for slide images do not apply and slide pages need not be made. By default, ‘Copy originals’ (below) will be checked, adding a copy of the original image to your album. If this is not selected the thumbnails will link to your original image, which will need to be accessible from wherever your album is stored. If you deselect copy originals you will be prompted to make sure your originals are uploaded.

Link to originals via scaled

Thumbnails link to the scaled down images, which then link to the original. As with linking to hi-res images, ‘Make Slide pages’ (below) should be checked, otherwise there are no links in the album to the original images.

Make slide pages

Slide pages allow for navigation between the main images. If not made the thumbnails link directly to the image, visitors would need to use the browser’s back button to get back to the thumbnail images and then select another image to view. Note, that this is only true for the non JavaScript based skins. In JavaScript based skins like Turtle, turning off Make slide pages will make Turtle run in dynamic mode which makes the slideshow much smoother.

Copy originals if needed

If one of the link to originals settings above is selected then checking this will add a full size copy of the original file to the album, and links to the originals point to those copies. If any originals are being used in the album and this option is not selected then broken links could appear unless the 'true' originals are accessible from the album’s location. For example the local album might work but if uploaded to the web the originals will not be accessible. It may also need to be set if linking is not to originals but some originals are included within the album.

The default is, and it is always safer to have, Copy originals if needed checked. Only uncheck this if you fully understand how linking works and you have arranged for all originals used to be accessible from the published album.

Which linking choice should I use?

Thumbnail layout

Columns

Older html table based skins rely on this setting for the number of thumbnails across each row of thumbnails on index pages. The columns and rows (below) settings match the columns and rows in the generated tables. For example, four columns and ten rows would give forty thumbnail images to an index page. Many modern skins however do not use tables, some use dynamic loading of thumbnail images and some include the ‘slide’ image in the index page. These settings thus may, or may not, affect the layout of an album. It is very much skin dependent.

Rows

Number of rows of thumbnail images on index pages. See "Columns" above.

Image ordering

Album-wide image ordering. The options here can be overridden on a folder-by-folder level. See Explore view mode and the View->Order by menu. Available alternatives are: Last modified date, Added date, Camera date, Name, Name (simple). The difference between Name and Name (simple) is that the former sorts numbers as numeric values and the latter as strings. Name would sort, for example File1, File2, File11 but Name (simple) would sort File1, File11, File2.

Link to homepage

Create a link back to your home page. Use either an absolute URL like http//www.mysite.com or a relative URL like ../index.html (links to the parent level).

Credit links

jAlbum will by default create a discrete credit link ("powered by jAlbum") that links to jalbum.net. Select the kind of link text you prefer here. Users with valid licenses can also opt to have these credit links removed.
