Dropdown menu issue.

Hello!

I've noticed an issue with a drop-down menu. If I move from a main menu item with a drop-down menu to one without, the drop-down menu doesn't close.

As you can see in the posted image, the menu stays open while the mouse is over a new selection. I believe this is a recent change.

My website

I get the same results in both Firefox and Chrome.

Thanks,
Jeff

An interesting phenomenon, replicated in Brave on macOS with a straightforward, default settings test album. It's OK if you move from "multi-dropdown" to "multi-dropdown," but not moving to a "no dropdown."

No browser console errors, so it's not some sort of JS coding error. It's just faulty logic.

This problem afflicts Tiger, as well.

And I think it's more basic than described. If there's a menu item that has a drop-down, the drop-downs don't disappear when you move your mouse off the menu. If you move your mouse to a different menu item that also has drop-downs, the first set do disappear. But move your mouse anywhere else, and the first set of drop-downs remains visible.

The latest release doesn't fix this.

https://jefftucker.jalbum.net/pbMenu/

Move your mouse over F1 - the menu expands. Now move your mouse over F2 - the F1 menu eventually closes, but only after a delay. But now keep moving back and forth between F1 and F2, and you quickly get to a point at which F1 never collapses again. It feels like a timing error.

ETA: Tiger does the same thing.

Also, a HOME button appears on subpages. I haven't had that before. I don't have a link to an external home page defined.

That's the "go to the top of the album" button, isn't it?

But it's a little confused. If you have an external link, the home icon takes you there, and the "top of album" uses an up-arrow. But if you don't have an external link, the home button appears only on folders, and takes you to the top of the album.

(I've wrestled with this in my own skins, and finally started using a different icon for a link to an external site, rather than having the home icon do double duty.)

ETA: I settled on the attached - a fat and a thin. In the skins they're SVG's instead of PNG's, so I can color and size them easily. Not sure how obvious the function is, but like all icons, once a visitor has clicked them, they don't forget what they are. ;)

It is. But previously, if I didn't have an external home page set, the HOME icon never appeared anywhere. This is different.

Nice icons. The imagery makes sense.

Yes, that was a bug in the past few releases. Previously, the "top-page" link was there in all subfolders.

What we call in jAlbum as "External home page" is functionally an internal home page. I can't imagine how a real external home page would be helpful. That's why I used the Home button when specified; otherwise, the Home button takes visitors to the top-level album page.

So if I understand correctly, the Home button is now functioning as it should, and what was before was an error. Right? That's good to know.

I thought an external home page designation let you embed a jAlbum design within another website designed outside of jAlbum. I never do that, though.

The Home button should now work as intended. It can have two functions:

1. Using any page (jalbum-generated or not) as external home page. It can be the top-level page of the site (e.g. jalbum.net) or the album collection page (e.g. jalbum.net/albums). Most users use the home button for this functionality. In this case, a separate "back to album top" top is used, the up arrow.

2. When no external home page is specified, the home button works as if the top-level album page was the home. In this case, no up arrow is used.

It has always worked this way, except between 2026 Aug 7 and 17, when the Back to top button was broken.

I thought an external home page designation let you embed a jAlbum design within another website designed outside of jAlbum.
No, I can't imagine how that would work, either.

When you set an external home page link, the home button links to that page from any page in the album. That functions as "Home", like a site's main page.

Thanks!

Since the home button is working as it should, I now look forward to a fix for the dropdown menu issue.

Thanks for all you do!

It's like an endless story. :( I used AI to perfect this library, so both scrolling and 3rd-level flyout menus are enabled. It seems, though, that AI doesn't have eyes or a mouse, and even though I tested every version myself, I didn't run it on the same layout you did. Now I gave it a bit more testing, and it looks like the latest version behaves better. Can you check it?

Almost there. I can no longer generate the "never disappearing dropdown." But I think I'd shorten the delay. Moving the mouse from F1 to F2, it feels like the F1 dropdown isn't going to vanish. Seems like about 2000ms - something around 750ms or 500ms might feel more natural.

Moving from F1 to F3 is more fluid.
