Album generation cannot be stopped

Please have a look at image attached.

When I click to 'x' button, the dialog disappears, but album generation still runs on background. It is even worse, the dialog appears again and again and again.

Take a look at Preferences/Settings > General > Background mode. I believe that currently defaults to "enabled." So, if you close the dialog, the album build continues. Haven't tried it myself, since I'm usually working with small test projects. When not in that mode, clicking the "X" does abort the build.

So, I'm not sure about the reappearing dialog. Tough thing to test because album generation is so speedy these days. I'll take a look at it later....

Belay that. If you're in background mode, that dialog box doesn't appear at all - there's a different progress bar at lower right. More tinkering needed.....

The way to test this, I suddenly realized, is to add a bunch of videos. That gives you enough time to experiment, since video processing makes it slow down considerably.

When I click the "X," the album build terminates every time, with nothing reappearing. At lower left, a message appears: Operation aborted. Are you seeing that message?

ETA: I'm also seeing a warning triangle at lower right in your screenshot. That tells me that there's an error occurring somewhere. Open the system console (F7), and see what the error message is

A hunch - maybe the abort doesn't work when it's reading metadata. Exceptionally difficult to test, alas.

Just as a quick experiment, create a new test project with just a half dozen videos. Kick off the album build, and then try to abort it. That's a different kind of test, since reading metadata from thousands of images isn't involved.

It’s possible the error is severe enough to corrupt the process, the error message really is needed. Also, after a severe error it is probably best to quit and restart jAlbum, to prevent chasing phantom errors.

Yes, I've encountered that "poisoned well" phenomenon.

(It happens with severe javascript errors in browsers, too, necessitating a relaunch and aggressive cache clearing before the results can be trusted.)

Thank you very much for help. I will try it.

I have wrongly understand enabling background mode. Background mode can be executed as a mode of album generation.

So I have simply expected, that I have available both "Foreground generation" and "Background generation" and I can choose between these 2 modes from combo box.

When a modal dialog is closed, it seems that gallery generation still runs. Why the dialog is then automatically reopened?

Please supply the error code, found in the system console (F7 to open it, then copy the message and paste in this forum.

Thanks for reporting. I've now tightened the about behavior (thanks Claude).
To check it out, do a core update to v39.7.5

Thanks. I'm also a little confused about what behavior has been tightened up.

Aborting an album during the "Reading metadata" phase wouldn't always stick - the dialog reopened. Also, the aborting process should be a bit quicker now.
