Album level thumbnails are still .JPG not .AVIF

Keeping things straight. You can have all the settings to ensure that thumbnails and images are in AVIF format, but thumbnails generated at the Album level are still in JPG format. (Album-level thumbnails are correct.)
Not sure why this was missed, but on large albums that can make a big difference in disk usage.
And consistency in image format is a must, rather than mix and match!

I get AVIF thumbnails on my Mac, jAlbum 39.6.5 and jAlbum 39.7. Settings>Images>Output format>AVIF, No variants included. The only exception, using Tiger skin. is the shareimage.jpg, don't know why that one image has not been converted but that's for Laza as it is skin specific.

I suspect that's because that image is used for social media sharing, and FB probably demands JPG . You can upload AVIF images to FB, but it converts them to JPG. But an og:image link in the album may have to be JPG. |

...but thumbnails generated at the Album level are still in JPG format. (Album-level thumbnails are correct.)
As always, make sure you're not telling jAlbum to process only updated subdirectories when you change the output image format. |

Interesting. I also have:
Settings>Images>Output format>AVIF, No variants included.
Settings>Images>Advanced>Force AVIF thumbnails
Settings>Images>Advanced>Force AVIF images
BUT I have folderimage.AVIF & folderthumb.AVIF But shareimage.JPG

That's odd. For me, it always generates AVIF's.
The share image is always in JPG format, in order to be accepted by the social sites.

I'm also on a Mac, and I get JPG folder thumbnails every time. I don't think RobM is looking in the right place - Tiger generates all sorts of images beyond the usual thumbnails and slides, many with misleading names. But the actual folder thumbnails are, indeed, where you're seeing them - in album > thumbs > folder.

Until a few weeks ago, I was. Big old Dell desktop PC, but M2 Macbook Air, and iPhone 14. I replaced the Dell with a shiny new M4 iMac.
I still hate Finder, and after living with the Magic Mouse for a couple of weeks, it was banished to the drawer forever. But most of the apps I use are entirely cross-platform: Thunderbird, Brave, LibreOffice, NetBeans, jAlbum, and so on. |

You are correct, I didn’t dive deep enough to see the true folder thumbnails. I wonder is it just Tiger or other bundled skins? |

You are correct....
As I've always told my grandnephews, "Unca Jeff knows everything, and he's always right." But now that they're between 12 and 16, they're not buying it any longer.
I wonder is it just Tiger or other bundled skins?
Quick tests - Photoblogger and Story also produce JPG folder thumbnails. Plain gets it right, however. |
