Theme Image Not Cropping

I at long last made the transition from Turtle to Tiger for a huge family photo album that I maintain. Overall, I am loving Tiger! But no matter what I try, I cannot get the output to respect the cropping for the theme image as set in the Editor. It always displays just the top 300 pixels of the image. I have tried AVIF and JPG output, using the "high resolution theme image" or not, etc, etc.

I do see a couple related posts in the forum from a while back, but nothing suggested in them has worked for me.

Please see the attached screenshot of the Theme image in the editor, and then the AVIF output.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Very mysterious. I just did a quick test with Tiger, using default settings (except for choosing AVIF as the output format), and it's behaving as expected. Images attached.

The only thing I can suggest is doing a complete uninstall/reinstall of jAlbum, and deleting your local copy of Tiger (the bundled version should be fine). This may sound drastic, but it will take only a few minutes, and you won't lose anything.

jAlbum reinstall: https://jalbum.net/forum/thread.jspa?threadID=35746

Launch jAlbum, then open your config directory - Tools > Open directories > Config directory - and delete skins/Tiger.

Also, do a test with a newly-created little test project. If that works, but your "real" project doesn't, that suggests that there are some old files hanging around that aren't being cleared properly. You might have to delete the local album and make the album fresh.

Oh, and never, ever choose Process only updated subdirectories. Trust me on this one. ;)

Thanks for the quick reply! This one didn't work unfortunately. I'll try the next idea...

This one did work! A tiny test project works fine. So how do I create a new project for my "real" album without losing all the captions? There are literally thousands of photos with captions, custom ordering in the folders, etc. Thanks!

Well, I (unfortunately) figured out what is going on. I started applying my "real" settings to the tiny test project, and sure enough, the theme image cropping quickly broke. I narrowed down the setting that kills it... It's the new Mac CoreGraphics scaling. Turn it off, and the theme image crops correctly. Turn it on, and it breaks.

Any ideas on how to fix or get around that? Given that I'm a Mac user, I hate to lose the speed and quality of the CoreGraphics support. Thanks!

Good detective work, and I can confirm it. I'm confident David can fix this, so just hang tight. I'll move this to the "Bug reports" section, since it's not a skin problem (I'm seeing the same problem in my own skins).

FWIW, it doesn't seem to be affecting other image cropping. For example, explicit image crops look OK, and setting the crop focus for fixed-shape thumbnails also seems to be fine.

One more tidbit.... This appears to occur only with Mac CoreGraphics. Using Windows HQ Cubic works properly.

I try to reproduce this but fails in doing so. Can you please put together a zip of a minimalistic project that demonstrates this?

Now I can reproduce it. I just didn't see the effect in the gallery itself, only when inspecting the generated file. I'll work on fixing it.

Now fixed. To apply the fix download https://jalbum.net/download/imageio-mac.jaext to jAlbum's "ext" folder. You'll find the "ext" folder if you open jAlbum, then select Tools->Open directories->Program directory.

You'll need to delete the incorrectly generated images to trigger a correct re-generation of these on the next album build.

Yes, that takes care of it.

Deleting the incorrectly-generated versions can be tricky - different skins don't even call the file the same thing. Laza calls it folderimage.jpg (or .avif) - I call it ja-theme.jpg (or .avif). In either case, you can do a search of the output directory in Finder.

If there aren't too many folders, it's enough to open the project, choose a different image as the theme image, immediately go back to the original choice (no need to make the album), and then make the album. Repeat for each folder.

Let's see now, I demonstrate the bugs, and Sparky fixes them. Remind me again, what is it you do?

Without your detective work, it would have taken us much longer to zero in on it! :)
