I'd like to display slide show images in random mode like a screensaver.
n.b. I don't mean shuffling thumbnails in 'edit'

This would be a skin feature, not something the core handles. And Laza has already responded about Tiger. There was a random slide show skin/tool but they used frames, not something that is fully compatible with responsive web design.

I just did a quick check, and there is a randomOrder option in the lightbox script I use in several of my skins. But because of some of the non-standard ways I'm using the script, it fails miserably. It shows the slides in random order, but it simultaneously louses up things like captions. For example, Title 5 with Image 9, Map 7 with Image 2, and so on. I wouldn't have a prayer of fixing the underlying bug in the script.
But as far as I remember, this is the first time any user has asked for this functionality. I suspect most users are producing albums that are intended to tell a story (travel, family etc.), or that are carefully crafted to showcase the photographs. People aren't usually using jAlbum to produce screensaver-style time-fillers. There are plenty of other scripts out there to do that.

Found an old copy of Slide Show Maker skin, attached. It still works but because of CORs it only runs from a server (runs in jAlbum's integrated preview.)
Quick summary.: you first make an album using any skin you like, as long as it is using jpg/gif images (could be changed to AVIF) and there are slide directories with slide images. The attached then makes a slideshow directory using the existing images from the previous build. The slideshow is made within the root of the album, but would need a link to it (slideshow/index.html) for it to be accessible to visitors. It has no styling from the skin used to make the slideshow.
Instructions are supplied within the skin.
