There is now a core update* available for v39.1 called v39.1.4. This version has two additions to the MultiMaker:
  • A new column now shows what output format(s) a project uses
  • Right-clicking one or several projects reveals an option to convert the output format to AVIF now.

New texts:
ui.changeToAVIF=Change format to AVIF
ui.changeToAVIFWarning=Do you really wish to change the output format of all selected projects to AVIF?

  • To run the core update, select Tools->External tools->"jAlbum core update" and restart jAlbum when prompted.

David, I've been playing around with the new AVIF format. Impressive!

BUT

Following your instructions, I tested on one of my sites with just one album.

All images were built and uploaded correctly in AVIF format, but when I view the album in jAlbum, each image still appears in its old ".webp" format.

Is there a way to get all the project images in the AVIF format as well?

I have two albums with over 20,000 images, and I'd not want to do the "conversion" every time.

Kind Regards, Nigel.

Just did a quick test. I built an album with WebP as the chosen output format. Closed it, then launched the Multi-maker, switched to AVIF, and made the album again. The album now shows only AVIF images in the output directory (thumbnails and slide images). It's simply not possible to be seeing the WebP images any longer - they're gone.

If you're using variants (but why bother?), it even handles those.

I said the same thing.

What I wanted to know was why the photographs in the project were not changed to the AVIF format, which are still the original format. Which tells me you cannot scrape the WebP format totally!

I'm not using variants!

Sorry, but I just don't understand what you're saying. jAlbum won't change your original images, no matter what you do. If they're JPG's, that's the way they'll always be. If your "originals" are WebP's, that's the way they'll remain.

The format change applies only to the output, and if you choose to switch to AVIF output, that's what you'll get. If you're including only originals, of course, nothing will change.

If you have webP as your project originals then you must have first converted them from either RAW or JPG. If you really want to use AVIF as the project originals now then you would be best going back to your actual original source and converting them to AVIF, then make new projects using the AVIF images. But you would lose all of the comments, titles etc. entered in jAlbum and all images would be ‘new’.
