Turtle skin support - with new license

Hello community,
I'm using Turtle skin (custom) since a long time ago, but haven't updated my jalbum since 2019 and my license has expired in 2020.
I'm going to reinstate my Standard license and I have downloaded the latest version of Jalbum.
Therefore, I'm just wondering if I would still be able to use my Turtle skin as it is now.

Thank you in advance!
David

I just dug a copy of Turtle out of the legacy bin (it was replaced by Tiger over eight years ago, so it's almost prehistoric, in the tech world), and made a little test album. As I expected, it didn't cause any errors, and the album works. Newer versions of jAlbum have added a lot of things, but only a few things have been removed.

Turtle even works without complaint using the AVIF output format, the latest major addition to the core.

Without knowing what customizations you've made, no one can guarantee that your mods will still work.

And there's no guarantee that a Turtle album will behave as expected in all modern browsers. I ran my little test album through a code validator, and it coughed up dozens of errors, mostly involving obsolete CSS selectors and values. But that would be true no matter what version of jAlbum you're using.

Sticking with Turtle is, IMO, a mistake. Among other things, viewing the album on a phone is a miserable experience - the skin isn't really responsive to the visitor's device.

The nonresponsive qualities of the skin go beyond the phone experience. If you size the theme image and thumbnail table so that they are viewable on a medium-sized device like a small laptop or large tablet, the resulting layout is absurdly narrow on a typical desktop monitor. But if you make the layout wide enough to look decent on a desktop monitor, it simply "spills over" on a laptop, and becomes unusable.

It really is time to say goodbye to what was, in its day, a good skin. There are simply too many better options now available.

JeffTucker,
Thank you so much for your thorough investigation and the advice.
I will create a new album with Tiger skin in parallel to try to replicate the existing behavior.

Actually, having jalbum is very fun. Much better than I expected. Much better than my PHP efforts a long time ago.

Thank you again!
Cheers!

Just don't make the mistake of thinking that Tiger is the only skin. This is the ongoing frustration of skin developers - users never venture beyond the default, even though there are a lot of other options out there, all free of charge. Besides the bundled, in-house skins, there are others:

For my own albums, I invariably use either Neptune or Saturn. If you're not looking for a shopping cart, social media links, or in-album searching, they might do nicely.

And don't make the mistake of insisting that a new skin be able to replicate the "look" of the old one. Web design language has changed a lot, so there's no virtue in being able to replicate the way a web site would have looked 20 years ago.

You are right.
I have abandoned the Turtle for good.
I have browsed several including Tiger, and finally stopped at Photoblogger. I don't have any shopping cart, I just needed nice, clean, light design for galleries, chronologically sorted.
Thank you again!

Some years ago, a user complained to David that the skins were all "boxes and borders and lines and control bars," all of them drawing attention away from the images. That sent me off into "minimalist" land. The "light" style of Neptune is an outgrowth of that:

There is, of course, a "dark" style to go with it:

All of my skins support folders (for things like chronological organization), optionally with some enhanced folder layout. Notice, too, the folder menu on the "hamburger" icon at upper left:
