i found a solution, but this is new to me.
when i go to my "peterverm.jalbum.net" / Albums, and i select "Bewerk album" (see print screen 1), i find that Counter is selected (as expected) (see print screen 2).
When i click on "Opslaan" ("save" in english), the counter appears on the album.
So OK, problem solved, but why is this extra effort needed ?
And come to it, why is there no image for my new albums ? There used to be one, see print screen 3.
Thanks,
Peter

The missing thumbnails are because you have set the albums to be only visible to you. This setting is under privacy when uploading but can be changed by selecting ‘edit’ and then going to the ‘Share’ section and changing ‘ Who can see this album’.

Some hidden albums have thumbnails, some don't. I've never figured out why some albums don't initially show thumbnail images - even some public ones suffer from that. It doesn't seem to relate to privacy - some of the public albums on the Recent page lack images. It doesn't seem to relate to where the albums are hosted, either - some on jalbum.net lack images, some on other web hosts lack them. Maybe skin-related?
Perhaps Anders can explain how the page is fetching images.

strange answer because i'm the one viewing. So it should be visible to me.
And more important to me : what about the widget that is not showing ?

Peter

What about the widget not showing ?

If the widget was enabled but not showing in the album then we'd need a link to an album with that problem. We can't use the existing albums as you have now enabled them. You could make a test album and upload it, if the widgets don't appear provide a link to the album.
If you previously had previewed the album without widgets and then added the widget it is possible you just saw a cached version of the page, not the updated version. Always try clearing the cache or using a different browser, one that has not been used previously to view the site.

That is how it currently works. You can change it so there is a thumbnail image, use the edit menu on the album thumbnail. Then click on the icon top right corner of the thumbnail (two curved arrows) and select the image shown.

i made a test album : https://peterverm.jalbum.net/test/
I can open it in Chrome and in Microsoft Edge, in both, there is no widget (i enable only the counter widget).

What about the widget not showing ?
Just did a quick test. In my own skins, I don't support widgets at all, so I hadn't even tried them in a long time. But yes, it appears that your choice of widgets in the app is ignored upon uploading. You have to visit the profile page and activate the widgets you want.
Just be aware that the counter widget is almost a random number generator. It counts visits by the jalbum.net server itself. It counts visits by search bots. It registers a "visit" every time you go to a folder, then go back to the top level page again. It registers a "visit" every time you refresh the page. In short, it's not really telling you how many people visit your site. (ETA: it's also counting a "visit" every time you look at your own album.)
And even if it did provide an accurate count, your visitors don't care how many other people have landed on the page. There's not much reason to display it.

Do a page refresh - it takes a little time for the widgets to appear. I didn't see them the first time I visited your test page, but when I went back to it and hit F5, they appeared.

thanks.
Mainly, i want the counter for myself : are people looking at my album or not ? And I had already the feeling that the counter was "too optimistic" : it felt nice to have many visits, but it felt also not realistic to have that many. Again : thanks for the clarification.

Peter

The alternative is to get a Google Analytics ID. Most skins provide a way to enter the ID in your album. You can then visit the analytics site to see how much traffic you're getting.
GA is good at filtering out visits by bots, and you can tell it what your IP address is, so it will filter out your visits to your own site.
The problem with GA is that, if anything, it's undercounting the visits, because more and more people use browsers, or browser plugins, that block the GA code. My default browser is Brave, which has been called "Chrome without the spyware." It has ad-blocking and tracker-blocking built in, and automatically blocks the GA tracking code. So, my visits don't get counted by other sites.

the count is not that important for me. And i'm an absolute beginner, so Google Analytics is probably too high level for me.
But i would suggest to mention in the JAlbum help the "random number" explanation in your previous e-mail. It is very clear.
Thanks,
Peter

OK, i tried the 2 curved arrows, that works.
Only, previously, this was not needed. The image shown in jalbum.net was the folder thumbnail, the image that you select with the "red heart" in the JAlbum application.
As with the counter widget, this is not really important to me, only, i liked it better as it was previously. Something changed, but not for the better.

Peter
