Project is empty

Went to update an older album and the project is now empty. Locally, ..\res and ..\slides folders have nothing in them, but all the photos are there. I copied all that data from my web host back to the local drive I keep everything jAlbum on, then extracted the lifeboat.zip file and overwrote the existing files. Still nothing displayed in jAlbum.

Tried opening the project file. No joy. However, if I click Preview, the album is displayed.

Paths are correct in settings. Comparing this project to others from the same section of my site, settings are identical.

Killed jAlbum and restarted. No change. (I did do the update to 38.2.1 the other night and updated another album, but didn't go in to this project at that time.)

I'm officially stumped...

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Maybe posting the lifeboat.zip file will give us a clue.

Open the project. Then choose Tools > Open directories > Image directory. For the moment, ignore the output subdirectory, usually named album. At the top level of the image directory, you should be seeing the project file - jalbum-settings.jap - a hidden folder called .jalbum (which contains some control files) - and, most important, the original images that are part of the project.

Are you seeing all of those things?

Yes, I saw those files earlier but after comparing the same directory/folder from another album, I discovered albumfiles.txt was missing. I re-extracted that file from lifeboat.zip and it's now displaying correctly. I was able to make my changes then build and upload the album. I'm guessing there was a 'hiccup' when extracting that file previously.

Not sure how this album got buggered, but I don't see any issues with my other albums. (I did do a full system virus/malware scan - nothing found)
