Under Settings > Advanced > General, there is a checkbox labeled Include subdirectories in index pages. At one time, there may have been a use-case for this setting, but I don't think there's any reason for it to be there today.

It might once have been useful to conceal the presence of all folders (e.g., protected folders). But jAlbum has long included the ability to hide folders, which achieves the same effect, but with the ability to tailor it, folder by folder, rather than using a sledgehammer.

In many skins, choosing this setting still functions, but doesn't do anything that hiding folders doesn't do. In other skins - for example, Plain and Tiger - the setting is ignored completely. By contrast, the option to hide individual folders is honored in skins.

There shouldn't be settings in the UI that perform no useful function.

I agree. I'll dump this setting.
