Nothing come through yet, I'll keep looking but you could also try sending Jeff a link. We can both share them whoever gets it first.

You can choose Tools > Upload/Manage and connect to your jalbum.net hosting account. Then you can drag-and-drop the zip file from Windows File Explorer or macOS Finder to the hp-bilder.jalbum.net entry in the jAlbum window.

sorry, i mean control-shift-F, the internal browser.

CTRL-SHIFT-F doesn't launch the integrated browser. It just kicks off jAlbum's "review" mode, which shows you each of the images. That works even before you've made an album, even before you've chosen a skin or set any options. It's just showing you the images in the project in a full-screen mode. It's not a web browser at all.

ETA: The review mode is like scrolling through the images in your camera. It's just a collection of images - they haven't been processed, or assembled into an album of any sort.

RobM forwarded your link to me, and I downloaded the zipped project. But it's not useful for experimenting, because all of the original images are linked, instead of being copied into the project, and we don't have access to the originals. So, if we make the album, we end up with no images whatsoever. jAlbum does provide some ways around this, but it has to be done one folder at a time, and there are dozens of them. It would take forever.

I was at least able to do some manual relinking, so that the 2025 folder was pointing to usable images. I simply used the existing output slide images as if they were the originals. Doing that, I had no problem with adding more images to the folders, or with creating a new folder and putting some images into it. The album built correctly each time.

I did detect one missing image in my abbreviated test. Try deleting it from the project, and adding it again:

2025 > Bad Tölz > P5170391_v1.JPG

Sorry, putting around 800 jpg in original res on the web would have been a bit much.

The missing image you noticed was exactly the problem why i started this thread. A bit strange that the (slightly) older jAlbum version managed to add it. So there is still something strange going on in your code or in the skin.

But we can close the thread from my side. I tried to change the skin to 'Plain' and then do a rebuild, that did not work, essentially jAlbum did stop immediately the processing, Then, i switched to Turtle, changed the size of the output images and then i could do a complete re-build. That worked, including the newly add image (Bad Tölz > P5170391_v1.JPG). So this worked correctly as far as i can see.

I will try again with the Tiger skin i had in my previous album version and i will try again with Plain.

Like Jeff, I added a new image to each of the 2025 subfolders and they all appeared in jAlbum explore view (original images appeared after making local copies, again like Jeff, and the fixing the broken links to point to my copies of the files). Made the album with Tiger skin and the new images appeared in the album (output) as expected.

I'd suggest updating to the current version of jAlbum and trying again. Let us know when adding a new image if it works, if you get a red 'X' (broken link) or nothing visible in jAlbum explore view after updating the folder view (F5 or Menu>View>Update).

This suggests that there's something odd about the internal formatting of that one new image, though I'm hard-pressed to imagine what it would be.

When you add that image and make an album, are there any console warning messages? Are you seeing a little warning "triangle" at lower right? If so, open the console - F7 - and copy and paste whatever you see there.

Instead of thrashing around with different skins, try one quick experiment. Take that original image, open it in some other image-processing app, like IrfanView, and, without making any edits to it at all, re-save it. Now try to use the re-saved image in your project. This is often enough to correct internal JPG errors.

ETA: And of course, the other essential debugging step is to create a new Tiger project, import the settings from the "real" project, then add just a handful of images, including the new one that seems to be causing the problem. Can you make an album from it?

The image is correct, and it is just one of (meanwhile) several images i used to add in the tests.

I did what you proposed: created a new project, Tiger skin, added some images, including the one previously missing. 'Album erstellen" took some 2-3 sec, but it did not create the album, 'Preview' is grayed out. There are no error messages in the console and no warnings in the GUI.
I then changed the skin to Turtle, rebuild, and everything works as expected and can be viewed correctly in the browser.
Then another skin change to Plain, again the build fails silently. Going back to Turtle works again.

So, are the skins the problem? Or is the detection of changes in jAlbum doing wrong (did you change there something since 36.1?)

How can i delete and re-install skins? Is something wrong in the jAlbum.zip which i used?

And again, jAlbum 36.1 works fine, so it is unlikely that my images or German Umlaute etc are the problem.

Probably. That's why we recommend that users make use of the provided installers, instead of trying to improvise.

It might be worth asking David if a flatpak installation is likely soon, the problems could be related to your OS (Manjaro).

Can't help you with that. I spent most of my IT career working with various flavors of Unix and its descendants, but for a desktop I wouldn't touch it. It's the wrong tool for the job.

If David wants to continue spending large amounts of time supporting a tiny fraction of the jAlbum users, that's up to him.
