Folders do not appear in an album

Hi, just upgraded to latest jAlbum version 37.5.

I added two folders with some images to an existing album (Tiger skin). Preview can see the images, but it seems that no web page is rendered as Firefox cannot see them (locally or remote). Below is a screenshot of what i see. In "2025", the folder "Sankt Ottilien" has a triangular mark and it is visible in the output. The "Schöngeising" and "Bad Tölz" do not have this mark and are invisible (or not rendered at all). Older folders are fine.

Did i miss something? What can i do to include the missing folders?

My installation: jAlbum 37.5 from zip file, jre 23 from jAlbum page, Manjaro Linux.

Check you don't have, under settings>Advanced>General 'Process updated folders only' checked. If unchecked then check the output folder, are the other two folders in your local album?

Make sure your settings look like this:

The little triangles next to the folder names? Try clicking one of them. ;)

these options where already enabled as in the screenshot. It seems however that tiger (and maybe some other skins) are broken and a full creation of the album did not work either )did nothing). So from my point of view, this thread is not at all answered.

And regarding the 'triangles': i cant see that something happens when i click them, they only disappear.

I now try to downgrade jAlbum to see if this helps and eventually then give feedback.

No one else has reported any problems with missing folders, so I can only conclude that you're doing something wrong. But I don't know what.

The little triangles are just like the little triangles in almost every menu system on the planet. If there are subfolders, they'll be displayed when you click the triangle.

to reply myself: after downgrading to 36.1, everything works again as expected. So i'm happy again.

But - as a wish - pls. prioritize quality and stability higher. Maybe just my feeling, but whenever i start jAlbum, there's a new version. But frequent updates for minor features or minor speed improvements may not be as import as quality.

ok, now i understand: i do not have subfolders in my subfolders :) so the triangles do nothing by chance.

And regarding 'doing something wrong..', yes, maybe, that can always be the case. But i just did an update and as the older version does work, it may be unlikely that the problem is on my side.

But if you need more info to research what happened, feel free to contact me. I'm happy jAlbum user since many years, so an issue here or there won't make me angry :)

We'll need a link to an album that demonstrates the problem. I can't reproduce it - adding a new folder behaves exactly as expected.

thanks for the reply. I'll send a separate PM as i want to keep the album 'hidden'. Current album on the web however seems to be correct thanks to the 3.6 jAlbum version to which i downgraded.

My current suspicion is that the album folder contains artifacts from older versions; the album is around 9 years old. Could that be? Is there a way to clean up, e.g., by re-creating everything at a new place without populating and configuring everything anew?

@Jeff i tried to send the PM with more info but i'm not sure if that worked. Can't see it in my 'send messages' :(

The file structure changed in 2018, jAlbum 16, but the change should automatically update the old project.
‘New cleaner project file format. jAlbum's project control files are no longer scattered among your images but neatly tucked under hidden ".jalbum" folders. jAlbum will upgrade projects to new format automatically.’

FYI, I tried adding an empty folder and that appeared in the album.

Have you tried updating the skin again and rebuilding the album, with another folder temporarily added, to see if it now works?

i will try re-building, have to switch to the newest version before. I will also try to copy the folder, remove what i think are old structures and see if this makes a difference. Will need some days though.

I need to comment on that: The most recent jAlbum releases no longer updates projects prior to v16, so if you need to upgrade a project, let jAlbum 33 (for instance) update it, then you can open in modern jAlbum releases. This change was done for performance reasons.

Sounds reasonable, thanks. How can i do that? I did not found a button for this. Is a complete rebuild sufficient, and is V. 3.6 (which i use now) to new for this?

If the tool, convert project format to pre 16 format is modified so that in processFolder method the move lines have the the directory order changed thus from
move(new File(jAlbumDir, "meta.properties"), dir);
move(new File(jAlbumDir, "comments.properties"), dir);
move(new File(jAlbumDir, "albumfiles.txt"), dir);
to
move(new File(dir, "meta.properties"), jAlbumDir);
move(new File(dir, "comments.properties"), jAlbumDir);
move(new File(dir, "albumfiles.txt"), jAlbumDir);
along with changes to the tool description and messages; then it would convert pre 16 projects to the current format.

Modified tool attached. Can you confirm that, I can't run a version of jAlbum that old to test it

Thanks, i will try that with 36.1. But give me a bit time.

I have those files you mentioned (in the album in discussion, didn't check newer ones), but they are in not in the album/ directory but in several or all of the subdirs (probably from older versions) which are not in the album hierarchy.

For ex, 'ls' on top level is:
2016  2018  2020  2022  2024  album                jalbum-settings-old.jap
2017  2019  2021  2023  2025  jalbum-settings.jap  lstree.txt

Folder 2016 contains some subdirs, for ex., 2016/Saulgrub has only a .jalbum dir which contains:
.  ..  albumfiles.txt  comments.properties  .info  meta.properties

In contrast, the jalbum dir on top level is:
.     2018  2022  album.rss           folderimage.jpg   index.html      thumbs
..    2019  2023  data1.json          folderimg@2x.jpg  lifeboat.zip    tree.json
2016  2020  2024  deep-data.json      folderimg.jpg     res
2017  2021  2025  folderimage@2x.jpg  folderthumb.jpg   shareimage.jpg

and album/2016/Saulgrub:
.   album.rss   folderimage@2x.jpg  folderimg@2x.jpg  folderthumb.jpg  shareimage.jpg  thumbs
..  data1.json  folderimage.jpg     folderimg.jpg     index.html       slides

So if i understand your tool correct, it moves the meta.properties and the others from those sub-dir .jalbum files on to the top level where they will overwrite each other. Is this correct?

I think i better make a copy of the album and a backup before trying :)
