Deleting picture in JAlbum folder does not delete picture on output folder

Morning All,
I needed to delete a picture from my local JAlbum folder which I did whilst in the JAlbum software.
I then used the "Make Album" button but noted that the said picture and associated html file were not deleted in the output folder specified.
I have not tried the "Force Remake" option as that will result in my entire album being remade which results then in an entire upload of all pictures via FTP to the website.
Anyone else experiencing this issue?
Thanks,
MdF

Afternoon Rob,
Thanks for your reply and the info which I did not know existed actually
But that said, I checked and the synchronisation option is already ticked.
I unticked and made the album again. Then ticked it again and made the album again.
The files are still not removed from the output folder?

The option to synchronize the output must be ticked when you delete the object. If it's unticked as some point, then re-ticked, it doesn't go back and clean up things that it missed.
Try a quick experiment. Make sure the synchronize option is chosen. Now add an image to the album, and Make Album. Check to make sure the correct file is in the output. Now, in the Explore view, delete the image. You should get a little dialog box that tells you that it's going to delete that object from the disk - click YES. No need to make the album again - that image should now be gone from the output folder already.

Was the picture that you deleted used as a folder thumbnail? Was the output file the same name as the input file that you deleted?
Some skins make their own folder thumbnail/hero images, and those may be down to the skin to manage. So what skin are you using?

Hi Rob,
No, the file was not used as a thumbnail.
Yes, the output file name was the same.
I am using the Tiger skin.
Thanks,
MdF

Hi Jeff,
I undertook your exercise as you outlined.
Everything worked up to "No need to make the album again".
When I refreshed the local album view, the picture was gone physically but its little display window and text below was still showing. Just no picture.
I then did "Make Album" again and that did remove the picture and its little window from the output folder.
Thanks,
MdF

Yes, that's operating as intended. When you delete the object, the image is immediately deleted from the output folder. But the album page is still pointing to it, until you make the album again.
If you have any "leftover" output images that didn't get deleted when they should have, you can delete them in your file system, in File Explorer or Finder. If the album really does need them, it will replace them when you make the album, so no real harm done by the manual deletion.

Thanks Jeff,
But just following up further on synchronisation etc.
My understanding is that synchronisation to the output folder should be an exact mimic of the local album folder plus the neccessary html stuff to make it web visible?
So, if I happen to delete a picture in normal Windows Explorer from an album folder, and I then open up JAlbum, and click Update, that should also suffice as an input to synchronisation that something has changed and the output folder will change as well?
An interesting thing I discovered a few weeks back was that I wanted to do a complete Force Build to get the album online back to what I have locally.
When I did that, and using the WinSCP FTP programme set to compare local with remote folders, I noticed that an extra ordinary number of pictures and files were going to be deleted on the remote site.
This now makes sense that what I might have been doing is using a mixture of Windows Explorer and JAlbum Explorer to delete files?
But as you said above, the JAlbum Explorer is the best place to do this?
But I come back to my point above, that no matter which form of Explorer I use, when I click update after opening JAlbum, that should trigger the neccessary deletions when the album is made again?
Thanks,
MdF

You're over-thinking this. Add and delete objects only in the jAlbum Explore view. After you have added or deleted something, Make Album, then upload the result.
Use only the built-in jAlbum uploader - external FTP programs can't keep things properly synchronized between the local album and the published album. Even if the external FTP program does have some sort of synchronization option, it will be much, much slower than using the jAlbum uploader.

I understand your reasoning, but jAlbum's synchronization mechanism acts as you're deleting files from within jAlbum only. We can't ever make this mechanism 100% tight as a skin might create files through scripting, and they do. One way to improve the situation would be to replicate the manifest file concept we're using to clean up abandoned files on the server, then we could detect some "orphan" files, but never all of them.
