Downloaded website gives 'Fatal Error' but opens (with problems).

Was excited to create a new webpage of photos and videos, after reupping subscription after 13 years not using jAlbum, but problems with downloaded website (these do not occur in with local version -- and do not occur on the rest of my website that I added this new folder to ):

--When opening website or any pages on either phone or computer get this message box (in both Firefox and Safari on both phone and computer. Same with other issues):

"!Fatal error! X"
Local access to the album's database file is blocked by you browser. This does not affect the uploaded album! Use jAlbum's Preview (F12) for testing!"

When I close that window with the X, I get into my website (but get same message when going to any other folders, back to any folder, or refreshing).

--Once in site, photos and videos open (without fatal error message), but no navigation appears. Have to use browsers back button to return and cannot go back and forth within images/videos.

--Captions that appear with thumbnails do not appear with opened images/videos (but do locally).

Don't know if this is problem -- when using FileZilla for ftp transfer, not all files successfully transfer (timeout messages). First time trying 4 out of 304, retransferred and 14 out of 304).

When I do the F12, have no idea what to do or what to look for in panel that opens at bottom of webpage!

Using Photoblogger 6.2.1
URL is http://kenlansphotography.com/koromasilaia/album/index.html

Thanks

There are various 404 errors, missing resources. The main one is the tree.json file. Upload the album again, the tree.json file should be present in the 'album' directory.

Use jAlbum's built in upload, it will be quicker.

I should refine the error message to address the missing JSON files for the uploaded album. Now, it assumes the album started from the file system, which is why access to JSON is blocked. Hence, it says, "use F12 to test the local album," which means use jAlbum's built-in Preview functionality instead of opening the index.html from the file explorer.

jAlbum's Upload functionality is quicker and remembers what files to upload and what not. Also, once you use the Upload routine, the skin will know the album's uploaded location so that it can generate meta tags to help social sharing sites find your content.

Thank you for quick response (I'm eager to get site up and running and sharing images from the ongoing construction of a new school building in Sierra Leone, Africa that started last week). Didn't realize I could use upload function to my own website! Was much smoother and quicker and will make updating posts daily or several times a week much more seamless.

But still have all the problems from before. Fatal error message, no navigation on opened photos and videos, no captions in those opened photos/videos.

New URL is http://kenlansphotography.com/koromasilaia/index.html

Thanks.

You still have the tree.json file missing.
Try deleting the manifest file, click on the 'spanner' icon top right corner of the upload window and then uploading again. Then check that the json file has been uploaded.

If you’re using IIS hosting (for some strange reason), this can also be caused by a misconfigured server.

I deleted the manifest file (also then, as per Wiki, deleted root index file when first step alone didn't help). Still same issues. directory does show a tree.json file (screenshot attached).

Again, thanks for help efforts thus far.

As I suspected, the tree.json file is on the server, but the server won't cough it up. It's an IIS server, and it's misconfigured. See screenshot.

Try the remedies in the sticky thread at the top of this forum section:

https://jalbum.net/forum/ann.jspa?annID=151

But the real solution is to move to a more normal web host, and get rid of IIS hosting. There's no need for it, and it's a balky beast. While you're at it, it's time to move to SSL, i.e., https instead of http. On even bargain web hosts, that's now the default - you don't even have to ask for it.

Jeff --

Feeling like I must be stupid. On sticky thread says, "All you have to do is turning on the "Settings / Photoblogger / Advanced / Site admin / Use Microsoft IIS or Azure server configuration" setting."

When I go to 'settings' there is no 'Photoblogger' option and if I go directly to Advanced there is no 'Site Admin' option (screenshots attached).

What am I doing wrong?

And yes, will look for new web host, but, for now, do want to get up and running quickly.

Duhhh!

Followed directions (instead of "Site Admin" is now under "Server related settings"): checked box for "Use Microsoft IIS or Azure server configuration", hit "make album", Uploaded and still have same problem (same fatal error message, etc.). Tried deleting the manifest file again and reuploading still without success. Do I need to "force remake" or anything?

Do not do a Force Remake. All that does is reprocess all of the images, which then all have to be uploaded again, and the images aren't the problem here.

You need to contact your web host, tell them your site requires the use of JSON files, and that they need to fix their server so that it will actually, ya' know, serve them instead of claiming that it's a 404.

Will try to get in touch with them first thing in morning -- since seems like nothing else I can do on my end (through jAlbum).

Thank you!!

Indeed. You're paying a web host to manage the servers. You shouldn't be expected to correct their mistakes.

You should be able to submit a ticket to the web host at virtually any hour of the day or night. Any host that can't fix this in 5 minutes or less should be dumped, ASAP.

Just wanted to share: emailed hosting company to start a support ticket with description of problem and specific solution steps jAlbum suggested for correcting misconfigured servers and got this email back 13 minutes later:

"I have added appropriate handlers for .json and the odd .wolf extensions you requested.

I can confirm when navigating to http://kenlansphotography.com/Koromasilaia/tree.json that the JSON data is now displayed."

Thanks for all your help! You rock!!
