Photoblogger update reset settings—worth continuing?

I recently installed an update for the Photoblogger skin and discovered that all my settings had been reset to default. I’d put a lot of time into building my site and now have to set everything back.
This has me wondering : are unexpected resets like this common? While Photoblogger is appealing, situations like these make me question whether the trade-off is worth it – time is money.
I’d love to hear from others—have you encountered similar issues? How do you weigh the risks versus the benefits of using photoblogger?

In almost 20 years, I have never seen an update to any skin cause settings to be reset to their defaults. jAlbum simply doesn't work that way.
If you have an existing project, the only way to trigger that is to go over to the skin choice box on the left, and choose the same skin again. That causes a reload of the defaults. But even if you do that, when you close the project, it asks you if you want to save the project. At that point, of course, you just say "No," and the original project settings will still be there the next time you open the project.
ETA: And I just did a quick test. Created a project with Photoblogger 6.1, changed a bunch of settings, saved the project, closed it, installed Photoblogger 6.1.1, reopened the project, and there was no change to the saved settings. Exactly as expected.

Just one word is the answer: Backups
If time is money to you then you should have backups (from everything, your pictures and of course from all of your projects).
Just my 2 cents.

If you saved your PhotoBlogger settings as the skin's default - Menu>File>Save as skin defaults
https://jalbum.net/help/en/JAlbum/Menus#Save_as_skin_default
You will have a file named Photoblogger-defaults in jAlbum's configuration folder (SHIFT + CMD + C, or Menu>Tools>Open directories>Config directory). You can copy that file and paste it where you normally save the project settings - default is within the project folder. Then you can rename it to jalbum-settings.jap.
Saving the skin's settings as a default will also ensure new projects use those settings instead of the skin's defaults.

Thanks, RobM, that is a convenient solution. By the way, photoblogger hasn't reset to default, some settings changed, some settings remained... strange. Anyway, with you method, I can save and apply my complete settings.

Ok, thanks for the replies, although one of them is close to trolling. For the subject itself, I simply pointed out a possible update issue here (since I've never seen a program or person who hasn't made any mistake in 20 years), no need to get upset.

No one is upset. When we see reports like this, we quickly do some tests to find out whether there's a real problem, whether it's an non-reproducible one-time glitch (those are very frustrating!), or whether it might be user error. Then we respond with whatever we've discovered.

"should have done" answer type. What's the point ?
The point is, you wrote: "I’d put a lot of time into building my site and now have to set everything back.". I just replied that if you had a backup, there is no need to set everything back (by hand). Instead you just look into on of your backups, grab a recent file of your project and you are done.
Frequently people report that they have lost pictures or jAlbum project files or what ever and ask how to get things back. And the only answer to this is and was all the time: "Backups". Full stop.
A well know German technology magazine (c't) has a saying: "Kein Backup, kein Mitleid" (No backup, no mercy). And this is 100% true. Just read the first point of this article:
https://www.heise.de/select/ct/2023/17/2313908253379035574
It says "Jetzt!", which means "Now!". Which means when do you create a backup.
What I said is not "trolling".
Cheers, Markus

I have never encountered such an issue, but I do the opposite of what the regular user does. Anyway, I load the skin a hundred times a day (after any change in the Java files), which is supposed to be the same as updating the skin. And never saw resetting the settings. Reselecting the skin does that, which I do frequently, to return to the default settings during development. If you look into the skin's image directory (Ctrl-Shift-I), there might be a backup(s) of the settings, and importing the uploaded album's settings can also save the day.
