Perhaps I could assume that the menu could be displayed fully on any device that's at least 640px wide.
I use that kind of "dumb logic" in my skins. "If it's less than 500px in either dimension, it's a phone." But I'm not dealing with any critical differences between "click" and "hover," which complicates things on something like an iPad, which may be just a large as an older laptop, but lacks a mouse. I'm usually targeting only the display choices (menu burger vs. separate entries, turn off the metadata display, etc.).

I tried now with width >= 640px and height >= 480px, and even on touch devices, the dropdown menu is pretty well manageable. So, I will follow this dumb categorization.

I get this menu layout on Chrome on my Samsung phone (the top level of my tiger photo album). Using latest skin.
Is this as expected?

The text next to the home button should be hidden (or in a new line above the folders) - I'll fix this.

I played with the Tiger version 6.6 and found at the the max value for " skin.topNavigationHideLong" is 40. This is not what I want. So, I closed the project in jAlbum and manually changed that value in the JAP file
skin.topNavigationHideLong=90
That works for me. All my albums will look as before, on a desktop monitor.
If you ask me, limiting that value to only 40 is a bad choice, make it 99 or something in that range. Thanks in advance. Markus

I never thought anyone would like to display more than 40 top-level folders. That occupies half of the screen. I've changed to 200 now and made the default threshold to 16.

I should find out if the mouse is also available on these devices.
iPads can use Bluetooth mice, https://support.apple.com/en-us/105004

But the trick is to figure out if this particular visitor is using one. Device sniffing is a minefield.

I knew I should have written the post starting with FYI.
But yes, device detection should be avoided, especially as some devices can lie about what they are.

Not sure if this was supposed to be fixed under 6.6.1 but I can confirm it is still occurring.
Checked on mobile versions of Chrome and Firefox, and is also the same on the desktop Chrome and Firefox is you narrow the width of the window enough.
See attached screenshot in previous post above for details (post 369858)

Ahh one more odd thing. So the menu is showing fine after I updated the use button to 20. But in two of my menu items "Signatures" and "Omiyage" it disappears. Does not happen with the other links. Attached is a photo showing the signatures entry page and intro page where the menus are behaving differently. One other note is that the folders within the signature entry page are working fine too menu is displayed.

It's a feature; using the menu button was always how it worked on small devices, below screen 640px width.

Signatures and Omiyage contain 18 items. If the threshold was set at 20, these pages might not have been uploaded yet.

Your site is a mix of pages made with Tiger v5.11.3 and v6.6.1 - this is why it behaves oddly on some pages. Please note that the older pages might become unusable when they use the resources of v6.6.1.
