Need help with search and keywords

Hello,

I only recently started using keywords, search, and tags, and I'm encountering some problems and misunderstandings. If you could enlighten me on the following points, that would be great!

  • In the Tags Cloud box settings, with Fields to search containing folder:title, if a folder's title is composed of multiple words, it generates one tag per word. Example: if a folder's title is 'Towers of New York', this generates the three tags 'Towers', 'of', and 'New York'. That's surprising! Is this intended behavior?
  • In the Tags Cloud box settings, with Fields to search containing folder:title, tag(s) are generated if and only if a title has been explicitly assigned to a folder. If a folder does not have an explicit title, the file name is used by default in the gallery, but this case does not generate a tag, which gives the impression that some folders are missing the tag list. Is this intended behavior?
  • Suppose I have an image with the keyword 'New York towers': if I search for 'New York', I find my image. However, if the keyword for my image is 'Towers of New York', searching for 'New York' finds nothing, and I don't understand why. Is this a bug?
  • It seems that the search doesn't take variable expansion into account in comments. I have an image whose comment contains ${originalDate}. Searching for the appropriate date fails, but searching for '${originalDate}' returns the image correctly :(
  • Searching in the photo data gave me quite a few problems:
    • It's not easy to find the right word to use in Fields to search, especially when the album language is not English. For example, in French, the aperture is displayed in the photo data in the gallery as 'F-Nombre', but you have to use the keyword aperture to search as expected.
    • I couldn't successfully search an exposure mode. For example, I can't find any photo taken in shutter priority or manual mode. And I am unsure if I must search for the English words (e.g. shutter priority ) or the translated counterpart (e.g. priorité vitesse ). What should I do for that?
    • Searching for numeric values doesn't seem to work, for example, ISO sensitivity. I suspect it's a bug.
Please let me know what you think about those points.

One more I discovered since my last post:

Web locations without titles are correctly found by the search, but does not appears in the tags cloud (using webLocation:title in the fields to search).

Search and "tag cloud" are using different methods. The search tries to find as many results as it can, the tag cloud tries to minimize the noise.

There are different types of fields: comments and titles are regarded as divisible, but keywords are not.

The photo data was never intended to be used in the tag cloud, and it's true that it's not easy to find something through search either because of the wild variations between languages and how the cameras write out this data.

The title fields never fall back to the file name in these functions. Perhaps I can add a user option for this.

Thanks for these details

This could be interesting and would be consistent with what the gallery displays.

IMHO, for someone viewing the gallery, either with the search or with the tag cloud, it seems logical that he would be able to find what is displayed in the gallery. He is not aware that what is displayed comes from the title or the file name.
