Ordering of folders

Hi,

I have an issue with ordering that has me a little confused. (Nothing new there.)

The 'leaf' folders of my album are used to display photos (e.g. for a holiday). The pics are displayed (correctly) in chronological order:
  • Ordering: According to jAlbum Settings
  • Album Settings > Pages > Image Ordering > Camera Date / Reverse: no / Directories first: yes

The pages at the level above hold the 'leaf' folders as well as (sometimes) a few related photos. The intention is to display the folders first, in reverse chronological order (e.g. latest holiday first), with the photos below, also in reverse chronological order.

For these pages:
  • Ordering: Camera Date / Reverse

I've been relying on the Folder Names to determine their ordering - the folders are named to support this, such as 2025-02-15-LatestHoliday. This seemed to be working properly, but since adding to the album recently, the folder ordering has gone awry in places.

Has anything changed that might explain this?

Obviously a folder doesn't have a Camera Date, so what does determine the ordering in my scenario?

Thanks.

When you add a new folder, using the 'New folder' button, or drag and drop a folder in to a specific position, the ordering of the parent folder is set to custom and 'Folders first' is deactivated.

If you add a folder using the 'Add' button, or drag and drop a folder near the edge of the explorer window (a white border will appear) the folders first is retained and the added folder is place according to the 'folder ordering' contextual menu.

Thanks Rob, just pointing me to the documentation did it. For some inexplicable reason, I was completely missing the 'Folder ordering' option ... right under 'Ordering'!

For the older folders, I'd set this up correctly; for the new ones I was using 'Last modified date' rather than 'Name'.

All good now. Thanks again.
