Hi.

It's been a really long time since I used jAlbum -> Tiger skin, but now I have the time to update my site.

When I open my project, I see that most the folders/subfolders look as seen on 001.jpg and 002.jpg - illustrated with a red circle.

If I hit F9 (make album) or Shift + F9 (Force Remake) a box shows for a split second, disappears - and nothing happens.

I then pressed ALT + F9 (Make Test) and then I get the view seen on 03.jpg - and without folders it is supposed to show - and which can be seen on my online album (guldberg-lassen.dk), 04.jpg.

I have updated the the latest version (05.jpg) and the System log shows this:

ALT + F9 (Make Test) - does not work with database-driven skins. jAlbum should remove that option.

You can just do a "normal" Make album (F9), and when it's ready, use the preview (F12).

Hi Laza.

Thank you for a swift comment.

But nothing happens when pressing F9 or just pressing the Make Album button ("If I hit F9 (make album) or Shift + F9 (Force Remake) a box shows for a split second, disappears - and nothing happens.")

What does the System Console (F7) say? Is there any error message?
The skin or jAlbum might be damaged. A reinstall might help.

PS. I succeeded in getting a screendump of the box that shows for a split second when pressing F9. When doing that - pressing F9, the box appears, disappears - and then a preview appears, as mentioned above.

Nothing happens when pressing F7 - and when manually going to the console (Tools -> System Console), nothing happens either! So yes, a reinstall is probably the cure, but my fear is that the whole project is gone afterwards!

But thank you for your help - now I now it is the installation that is the problem.

Doing a "clean" uninstall/reinstall of jAlbum won't have any effect on existing projects. They're not stored together.

Well, I uninstalled jAlbum and did all the steps in this thread: https://jalbum.net/forum/thread.jspa?threadID=35746

I restarted my Windows 11 Pro Desktop computer, reinstalled jAlbum (the newest version, 36.1) restarted my computer again, started jAlbum... and nothing has changed - still as when I started this thread:

https://guldberg-lassen.dk/diverse/jalbum.mp4

Laza wrote this: "You can just do a "normal" Make album (F9), and when it's ready, use the preview (F12).". But when I do a "normal" Make album (F9), the Preview appears automatically without me pressing the F12 key! And still it does not show the folders as it should (and do on my site = https://guldberg-lassen.dk/).

I have not mingled with jAlbum and my project for a long, long time - I only updated the software when I got a mail telling there is a new version - so I have not touched anything in the settings or in the project - weird!

PS. I just noticed that my two other projects works fine:

They are not pretty, they were just made in a hurry for a few people to look at ;-) But when I change something in these projects and press Make Album, then it works as it is supposed to! So it is 'only' my largest project that for some reason do not work!

Create a new, simple test project. Add just a dozen images, perhaps in two folders. Reset Tiger to its defaults - while you're sitting there looking at the project, go over to the skin selection box, and just select Tiger again. That will override any weird default settings you've saved. Now hit F9. When it's finished, hit F12.

Helpful
Oh, and make sure you have not selected Process only updated subdirectories under Settings > Advanced > General. This will cause all sorts of failures, especially with a JSON-driven skin like Tiger.

One more thing. Until you get things sorted out, use an external browser, not the integrated one (it's a long story). Your preference settings should look exactly like this:

UPS - I just edited my post while you replied:

I'll check out your posts right away :-)

I've been trying to get David to do that for years. It might have been OK with an old-school HTML table page layout.

But even with a non-JSON skin, like all of mine, it's a terrible option. A user might think that the album is then ready for uploading, even though images haven't been reprocessed when they need to be. Particularly with any kind of masonry thumbnail layout, the results could be very poor.

I found out what was the problem!

I attached five.jpg's to my posting, and two of them shows what was wrong, but I guess they slipped the keen eyes of you guys ;-)

I have not the faintest idea why this has happened - I have not touched that feature at all, and did not even know it exists - but it is: Exclude!

Confession - we usually don't even look at the screenshots. They usually tell us nothing. Users crop out the part of the screen that we need to see, or they're just not very enlightening. It's a bit like sending a photo of your car to your mechanic, and asking him why it won't start. ;)

One thing that I really mean, however, is that Process only updated subdirectories will create a mess with most of Laza's skins. Just uncheck that, save your new defaults, and don't look back.
