The Output Folder
Posted: 13 Dec 24, 02:02

In the process of rebuilding the larger of my two albums , I happened to notice that JA doesn't remove folders that have been deleted and I thought it did. At least I found multiple folders in the output folder that no longer existed in the project.

If I'm once again way off base, my apologies but if I'm not, I'm wonder if it's prudent to empty the output folder from time to time and remake from scratch?

I'm also curious if there's practical limit to the number of images that can be contained within one album. The album in question has just over eleven thousand images (5.9gb). The scratch remake took ten minutes which I thought was impressive and the upload, (thanks to my stingy hosting service,) took sixty-six minutes but I was only able to get 12mbs during the upload.

Thanks in advance..

If you remove a folder from within jAlbum, in the Explore view, it should remove the corresponding output folder. Make sure you've got the preference set to do that - see screenshot.

If you do the removal outside of jAlbum, of course, it knows nothing about it, and can't do anything about it.

There are users who have much larger projects than that. There's almost no inherent limit within jAlbum.

But there's nothing jAlbum can about your upload speed. And in fact, many ISP's offer stunning download speeds, but they're not symmetrical. My host is now up to 400mpbs download, but is still stuck at 11mbps upload speed. Fiber would offer upload at the same speed as download.

Install this app, and do some testing (with nothing else running, of course):

As always, thanks for the quick response, Jeff and first off, I did not delete folders via the Explore view, I did it with the file management program I use, (ZtreeWin) and I presume that wasn't the way to duit. :=) Now I know although I sure prefer using Ztree for file/folder management. I guess that JA doesn't have a routine to check current against existing in the output folder and clean up as necessary but it sounds like I'll have to change my ways for any album management anyway.

Roger on Speedtest, probably use it once every couple days both in here with a wired connection and around our home and property to check wifi bandwidth. Very handy little app. As for ISP and hosting services, I have Spectrum's gigabit plan which is 1gig down and 40mb up and I have to say, they're consistent and reliable. Now how they get that much data through that little copper pipe is beyond me.

I also upgraded the house LAN over to Wifi6 with a Netgear Orbi router and three satellites. (When did we stop calling them access points? <smile>) I love the Orbi system and I consistently get 400mbs down a hundred feet from the house.

My problem is the hosting service for my two domains as the best they let you have is 12mbs. Consequently, multi-gig albums take awhile to upload from scratch. And, I've been through a half dozen of these outfits over the past twenty years or so and all of them have left me wanting.

Thanks again, Jeff. MOF I have a long list of JA questions saved but I keep forgetting to ask them one at a time. <laughing> The old brain just doesn't hack it so well these days. :=)
