Spam email?

I got this email today purporting to be from jAlbum so I'm just checking that it is in fact a phishing scam. The email states:- " Your payment for subscription to "jAlbum Standard support and update plan" will be automatically processed on 09/12/2024 (£24.50).
Please verify your payment details to ensure successful transaction and uninterrupted delivery.
Manage Your Payment Details"
The link to payment details directs to "https://jalbumnet.onfastspring.com/account" I use a jAlbum licence and not an annual support plan so I'm sure its a scam but just thought I'd check on here.

That's not a scam. That's the standard license/support renewal message. jAlbum doesn't handle its own payment processing, so that's why the email is coming from FastSpring.
Only the jAlbum team has access to your license and payment information, but from what I can see, your one-year support ends on Dec. 9, 2024, so this is a 30-day notice. So, last December, you must have purchased a license, which automatically comes with one year of free upgrades. If you don't want to renew, I believe that you can just follow the link and turn off the renewal. At that point, you will still have a jAlbum license, but won't get any further updates to the app.

Hi Jeff, thanks for that. My mind must be slipping. I knew that I had updated my licence some time ago but I hadn't realised it was less than 12 months ago. Checking my emails I can see that I took advantage of a 60% discount to get my jAlbum software up to date. I've updated my licence a few times in the past 10 years but this is the first time I've come across the "auto-renewal" thing. I'm quite happy with my version at the moment so I'll probably opt not to renew for another year or so. Thanks again.

I've never seen the payment processing routine (I have a Papal Dispensation), but if you have any problems shutting off the renewal, contact the help desk directly.

You are not reading this correctly. If you purchase a license, you receive automatic updates for one year. If you don't renew the license, the updates stop when that one year is over.

You have a Pro License. The one year of free updates ends on 24-NOV-2024, unless you renew it. If you don't renew it, you'll have jAlbum 36 for as long as you want to keep using it. Nothing else changes. No features magically go away. The only change is that you won't get any more updates to jAlbum.
This really isn't complicated.
