I assume the settings for showing the pages are global?
I would like to have some show excerpts and some to show the full page.
Is that possible?

I don't think there's any way to do that directly.

You could, however, add About.htt at the root level, but then add another about page in a folder. Rename the file as needed for clarity, like About This Folder.htt. You could then enter just the shorter text for the folder's about page.

Only the root level page will appear as a primary link in the top navigation bar - the folder's about page will show on the drop-down menu for its folder. And if you embed the pages, the folder will show its own, short, about page embedded, like above the thumbnails.

Thanks
To clarify; the pages I want to add are not the same content where I want to show excerpts in some places and the full text in others.
They are different pages with different content. I want some of them to show the full text and others to show as excerpts

I'm not sure your solution does that, although I haven't tried it yet and it looks like the kind of thing that will be clearer when I do!

I think I understand what you're after, and I don't think there's a way to do it.

You have to remember that there's only one Javascript routine that drives the display on all the pages. If it's been told to show just an excerpt, with the full content visible only when the visitor clicks on the embedded piece, that's what it's going to do for all the pages in the album.

Thank you
That's what I figured

Maybe a feature to implement?
Different styles of pages, full and excerpt at the page level.

Yes, because Tiger isn't byzantine enough already.

Something else to think about.... Where, in the settings panels, would you expect to see this option? How would you tell the skin which pages should get the full text embedded, and which should get only the excerpt?

It wouldn't be in the setting panel it would be separate page types
Excerpt
Full
Link etc.

Possible. Or maybe just one page template, but with two text fields - excerpt and full text. The album would then display the excerpt if it was non-blank, but if you haven't entered an excerpt, it would display the full text. I think that would be reasonably clear to a user. It would also let the user control the extent of the excerpt in a very direct way - in fact, the excerpt could be different text entirely.

But I'll have to leave that to Laza - I handle this kind of material very differently in my skins.

Now you can insert
<!--more-->

at the point you'd like the excerpt to end. But you cannot specify different excerpts to what is displayed on the full page.

That raises the possibility of an interesting workaround. There's more than one way to skin this cat. ;)

Let's say your About text for one folder is this:
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Etiam tortor magna,
convallis nec ultricies eu, semper et ante. Vestibulum ante ipsum primis in
faucibus orci luctus et ultrices posuere cubilia Curae; Praesent iaculis
congue ipsum. Donec id diam ligula. In nec purus non massa pretium semper
nec eu mi. Maecenas tempus mi ac elit commodo suscipit. Mauris vitae luctus
augue. Integer elementum pretium erat vitae tincidunt. Vestibulum ante
ipsum primis in faucibus orci luctus et ultrices posuere cubilia Curae;
Nunc fermentum purus massa.
<!--more-->
For another folder, it's this:
Nunc erat mi, mollis et malesuada non, congue ultrices ligula. In vel arcu
vitae mi sodales consectetur sit amet vitae quam.
<!--more-->
Praesent laoreet ornare gravida. Nam massa orci, eleifend vel euismod eget,
pretium non arcu. Proin feugiat tincidunt nibh a vestibulum. Vivamus
rhoncus adipiscing enim sed adipiscing. Pellentesque gravida, nunc
pharetra egestas elementum, felis leo luctus arcu, ac consectetur felis
sem eu mauris. Mauris bibendum, tellus a consectetur bibendum, neque eros
scelerisque ligula, non pellentesque libero nibh vel lorem. Aliquam lectus
nisl, pretium vel lacinia ut, mattis nec ipsum. Praesent at sapien elit.
Now, you tell Tiger to show an excerpt every time, rather than the whole text. But for that first folder, since the "more marker" is at the very end, it will show the entire text. For the second folder, it will show only the first sentence.
