Fixed now!

That's better. Screenshot. :)

Once I did the test with one of my own skins, which can accommodate an absolute or relative URL for the favicon, with any file name, and without the byzantine variants, I knew what the underlying story must be. ;)

I just wanted to see if any redirects on my albums are broken now that I'm fully on TIGER skin, however, each page comes up with the same 2 non-issues making it hard to find any real issues! (if there are any broken links)

Please confirm my thoughts on this.

Attached - See the screen capture of a typical page.

  • Favicon.ico missing from the res folder.

I am now seeing your favicon on the mgbreunited page. :)

When it comes to the FB issue....

One last little tidbit to pass along....

RobM, in helping to hunt down this problem, discovered that Safari caches its favicons in a way that isn't fixed by doing a hard refresh, or even by deleting all of the browser data. So, when you view a page that already had a favicon, but now has a new one, you'll keep seeing the old one pretty much forever, unless you manually wipe out the contents of:

/Users/YourName/Library/Safari/Favicon Cache

Thank you Anders. I can now navigate to favicon.ico in the res folder in each of my albums. Whether or not we need it in the first place is debatable and up to Laca to think about. According to Jeff it is obsolete.

Great!
The correct behaviour would probably be to use our default favicon if there is none at the requested location of the customer storage, but to never override it if there is one. But that isn't a 10 minute fix (including deployment).
The behaviour before todays fix was just broken.

I can too and all my other favicon.ico icons show.

(you are on your own!)

Yep. I might remove the Facebook link temporarily and then run the link checker.

Or just link to Facebook on my about pages rather than every footer.

Thanks for helping with this.

With one exception, not directly related to jAlbum-produced albums. If you have your own hosting (i.e., not jalbum.net), and you want to have a single, fallback favicon that everything on your domain uses, without needing to include it on every page, you need to plant favicon.ico at the root of your domain. That's what browsers will look for, as long as there's nothing more specific on the page in question. The browsers won't automatically look for any other name.

Anders, we know you never create bugs. Just "undocumented features."

I can always blame a former employee (which is actually true in this case. I looked it up). :)

I've removed the troublesome direct FACEBOOK link from the FOOTER of all my websites and replaced it with a link to my CONTACTS page, which has the Facebook link.

Instead of hundreds of pages showing an error in the W3C Link Checker Scan results, I now just get one.

The other error with Favicons has been cleared up.

This is as far as we can go, so the question has been answered.

Thanks for your help.
