adding Slideshow feature and controls
Posted: 21 Aug 24, 00:22

Where is the option to 'add' the slideshow feature and auto-play option ?
`

Been a bit since been able to work on web projects, so have forgotten some stuff in jAlbum. I have 25 pictures selected, to create a web-page for people to go to, get a summary overview, then go see the pictures. have been able to upload my project to my site and see pictures and but have to manually scroll thru them.

I want visitors will see the Summary page and Thumbnails, and can click on either or both... a- the first picture then start a slide show, or b- click an icon on the summary page to start a slideshow.

So... how do I add the option (overlay) that let's people click on the 'slideshow' icon and have it auto play thru the pictures ?

How do I set the system to auto-start the slideshow when they go in the pictures directly ?

How do I set the slide rate, seconds to view before moving on ?

And... can I place a button / icon on the summary page that just starts the slide show with the first picture ?

Is there a suggested/preferred, better basic 'Skin' to use for this page in general ?
. . in page seem to recall told to use Tiger ?

Very basic newbie questions, but 2 hours playing and can't find the settings to do these basic options. And not able to find the answer in the help pages.

Thanks

You're going to have to tell us what skin you're using. But most skins have an automated slideshow option (lightbox skins only - skins that use separate slide pages can't do that).

In Tiger, for example, see Tiger > Lightbox > Control bar > Show Start/Stop and Tiger > Lightbox > Main Image > Slideshow delay and Auto-start.

With the default skin settings, you automatically get a slideshow. On the thumbnail page, there's a right-arrow above the right side of the thumbnails for starting the slideshow.

Jeff,
Thanks, that got me in the right place... though I had to fumble with various things to get it to work, it seems. Meaning, you got me to the options, I clicked the settings, tested and did not work first couple times.

I am open to using the best easiest basic Skin. I am currently using 'Tiger' per someone said it was a good starting and multiple option skin, in past. You suggest another?

I have played with the 'slideshow delay' and is now at 12,000 and just seems like nothing is slowing down the slideshow.

Unable to get the thumbnails smaller to allow for 5 or 6 across. Have Thumbnail set to 160x160 now, no effect.

Can't find the option to not show the file name at the bottom. I do not want any photo data, just show the pictures. Turned off the data button, but the file name still comes up.

Not found how to disable the 'download' option, that download the 'lifeboat' file.

Nor how to avoid that 'folder' icon option on the main page. Not sure why that is even there, to get visitors to a folder?

I just want a summary page, with title, the thumbnails, and an exit button.

Thanks again ! It seems when you have some idea how a program works, they change stuff around, and half what you forgot along with things different... you have to start over.

OK, let's take this one step at a time, over several posts.

I am open to using the best easiest basic Skin. I am currently using 'Tiger' per someone said it was a good starting and multiple option skin, in past.

Sticking with Tiger is just fine. Some skins are better at some things than others, but TIger has the full range of options. Most of the time, you can just leave the default settings alone. You don't have to start off by changing everything!

I have played with the 'slideshow delay' and is now at 12,000 and just seems like nothing is slowing down the slideshow.

This is because your browser is caching the album scripts, so you're not seeing the latest changes you have made.

Step one, turn off the integrated browser. It's a mess. I don't know why it's still in the app. You need to do all of your previewing in a real browser. Go to Tools > Preferences > Preview, and make it look like this:

Then, whenever you preview an album in your browser, hit CTRL-F5 while you're looking at it, to force the browser to give you the latest version of the album.

Ignore the thumbnail image bounds. In many skins, that's a good way to control the layout, but not in most of Laza's skins. Go to Tiger > Sections > Images > Thumbnail columns, and choose 5 or 6.

Can't find the option to not show the file name at the bottom. I do not want any photo data, just show the pictures. Turned off the data button, but the file name still comes up.

Go to Tiger > Lightbox > Caption > Caption, and choose [Custom]. Give it a couple of seconds to display the Caption template box, then just delete everything that's in that box.

There is no option that gives the visitor the chance to download the lifeboat file (and please don't turn off the lifeboat file option itself - it's a critical tool for us to help users with settings problems). A visitor would have to know that the lifeboat file exists, and where it resides, before he could download it. There is no link to it on an album page.

In short, I'm not sure what you're referring to. Under Tiger > Site > Download, the default setting for both options is correct. For Extra sizes, it should be blank. For Offer download as ZIP, it should be Nothing. Please give us a link to your album, so we can see it.

Nor how to avoid that 'folder' icon option on the main page. Not sure why that is even there, to get visitors to a folder?

Again, I'm not sure what you're referring to. If there are no folders in the project, there can't be any folder icons on the main thumbnail page. Need a link to an album.

Jeff,

THANK YOU. These details were clear and exact and worked.
I have successfully created two basic photo pages I needed, doing more so what I want, using your help. Now to do more tweaks and tests.

thanks again!
