They're more noticeable in a list of bookmarks.

The toughest part of it is coming up with a design that still looks like something when it's being shown at only 16x16 pixels. I've seen a lot of "why bother" favicons out there.

An example of a really bad one, on a major site, The Weather Channel. For a while, they were using a nice, crisp, white TWC on a blue background. Very visible. But someone decided they should spell out the name of the site. Not such a good idea.

Yes yours shows well in the history list. Favicons are OK for corporates where they are a reflection of their logo. If I made a favicon based on my jAlbum avatar, it would mean nothing to potential visitors to my skin sample albums (I delude myself that they get looked at).

...it would be just a blob of color. Even at 45x45, which is how it gets shown in the forum, it's tough to tell what it is.

Leaving aside Jeff's black blob (which I can see clearly), the main objective is to get rid of the annoying Frog Favicon! (my apologies to David Ekholm if he is reading this.)

Also, the bespoke Favicons displaying my sites are an advantage because they are a visual aid for easily locating my websites, especially when the window is narrow with a few tabs open. (the text disappears)

The red ‘g’ is hard to read on your favicon, at a glance it is more like a c. Younger eyes probably can see better.

I agree, but it is not always about reading the Favicon but recognising the shape and colours and it isn't a Frog or rectangle!

Once you've got more than a single bold letter it gets harder to read.

Still doesn't really describe what's going on. I would label the JCheckBox:

If you don't tick that box, there are no explicit calls in the page code to a favicon, and the browser will grab whatever favicon.ico is sitting at the root of your domain. And in that case, there's no way to provide any of the other species of favicon - the PNG's, the Apple/Android large icons, etc., unless you provide custom code for the <head> section.

The Help Section could be more verbose.

I agree, but I have enough trouble cranking out the help documentation for my own skins, so I'm not about to start rewriting someone else's.
