There must be a way to turn off the sounds!
I don't want them, I never asked for them they are highly irritating.
Jalbum is now behaving like my car and bonging at me all over the place.
I don't need a bong to go with the notifications, I can read the popups!

Notification sounds are geared to individual devices or browsers or anything else that uses the internet and they also drive me crazy. Start by Googling "How to turn off notification sounds",

Thanks
That just gets me a bunch of info on how to turn off notification sounds outside of the app. Like android notifications, or windows notifications etc.
These are 'in software' sounds not windows notifications which are easy to turn off

There was a post two years ago asking for more alert sounds. Maybe time to reconsider a preference setting for alert sounds, given the opposing views of users.

Just need to be able to toggle them off.
No program should have sounds you can't turn off IMHO

This post is very puzzling to me. I just launched jAlbum, selected a skin, selected a style, added images, changed a bunch of settings, made the album, previewed it, and uploaded it, and I never heard a single sound.
The only notification sound I'm aware of is a subtle "ding" when there's an update available.
Where are you hearing all this "bonging... all over the place?"

Use the search box once. Type in, say, Images, then click on one of the "hits" that comes up. You will never see that popup again.
Those green boxes are intended for newbies. Once you've used the thing it's pointing to once, it gets turned off permanently.

I open jalbum it bongs because there's a skin update.
It bongs because there is a jalbum update
It bongs because it assumes I don't know where the search box is.
I type 'sounds' in the search box to prove I know how to use it. It doesn't show me how to turn them off
It then bongs when it has finished processing my album
I'm going to say that it's bonging all over the place :lol

I used the search box
It has just bonged at me again 3 minutes later to remind me that the search box is there.
I'm not even using it, it's open in the background while I do something else.

OK, so update the app and the skin, and that sound goes away. And even those are generally "once only" - in other words, if you dismiss the notification about a skin update (X out of it, on the right), you don't get told about it again. But ignoring skin updates is a terrible idea.
Use the search box once (as I've described above, and the way it's been discussed in here, ad nauseam, for a few months, and the way it's explained in the help wiki), and that sound goes away forever.
I'm not getting any sound when the album build is finished, whether I process it in the foreground or the background, so that's a mystery. I've got background notifications set to Normal, and never hear a thing, but you might try Tools > Preferences > Advanced > Background tasks > Notifications > Off. But since I never hear a sound at all, I'm just guessing.

it doesn't though
I literally used the search box and it bonged at me three minutes later to remind me that it's there

You're not following my instructions. Do I have to give you a checklist, and a pencil to mark off each item?
- Click in the Search box.
- Type in a term to search for, like Images.
- Click on one of the "hits" from the search, so that it shows you the thing you're searching for.
You're not taking that last step.
