Retrieving Comments from comments.properties

I have quite an extensive album I've built fro a website and I'm re-structuring it and managed to lose a lot of comments I have entered previously. They are all sitting in comments.properties. files for each page. Is there a way to get jalbum to ingest these comments from the files?
I'm sure I've done it in the past, but seem to find anywhere to do it from. I have selected all the options for comment sources under settings - advanced- metadata. I see there is the option to import from an album rss file, however that doesn't seem to work, the RSS file has the comment in the form: <description> comment <description> for each image along with all the data. This seems to have been kept from an old version as the album doesn't seem to write RSS files when I make new pages.
Any tip to avoid re-entering all the old comments would be welcome.

Find attached my "jalbum-settings.jap" from a project which also uses comments from "comments.properties" files. My "jalbum-settings.jap" does not contain the skin specific parts. Just make a copy of your .jap file, delete the parts with "skin." and compare them with my file. Check which values are different. Try to adapt my settings.
Good luck.

Your license indicates you are using an older version of jAlbum. If under comment sources you see ‘xmp’ then ‘jAlbum (Text file)’, then deselect ‘xmp’.
The latest version of jAlbum has changed the priority to use jAlbum comments, if they exist, by default. See the latest wiki page, https://jalbum.net/help/en/jAlbum/Settings/Advanced#Metadata

I have a similar problem. Jap files built long ago, when opened in jalbum 3.7 have lost the comments in the finished web pages, using turtle skin. They are all there (whew!) in the comments.properties files. I have update settings > metadata > advanced to include IPTC caption, either with without jpeg or exif user. Saved the project settings, closed and reopened it. Still no comments.
This is obviously quite annoying, as I have hundreds of photos in jalbum albums.
What to do?

First, get rid of all the other comment sources - you don't want jAlbum to pick up any xmp, IPTC, or EXIF stuff. So, under Settings > Advanced > Metadata, choose none of the checkboxes in the first two boxes on the page. The jAlbum choice is the right one, and that should be pre-selected and grayed out.
I suspect the real problem is where you've got your comments.properties files. Let's say you have several folders in your project, like Cats, Dogs, and Birds. If you open the project directory, the comments for the cat photos should be at Cats > .jalbum > comments.properties. In older jAlbum versions, that file would have been one level higher, IIRC.

I unselected not only Sources > xmp (can't unselect jalbum, fortunately), but all four comment sources. Comments are back on the jalbum explore window. But they were not included in the generated album.
Following your other lead, I checked and found the comments.properties files were in the folders for cat and dog in your example. I copied each one into cat/.jalbum, etc. and now all my comments are back.
Thank you very much for a fast and efficient reply.
