IOS 18 - HEIC not working

Hello,
I searched and didn't see anything about this. I am trying IOS Beta 18 on my iPhone 14 and now JAlbum isn't able to read my HEIC pictures. JAlbum flashes the image briefly and then it changes to a big red X on a white background. JAlbum will not render the image for my album either. This started with pictures taken with the IOS 18 developer beta and continues with the public beta. Anything that I can do?

The short answer is to change the settings on your iPhone so that it saves images as JPG's. The HEIC format is a patent-encumbered monster. Consider the fact that HEIC images can't be viewed in most browsers at all. Even Safari didn't support it until a few months ago.

Probably the heic library jAlbum uses will need a fix. But as Jeff said, use jpg, unless you absolutely need to save file space on your phone.

Thanks for the information. I switched mainly for the space savings and it's been great to have JAlbum support it.

After my experience it doesn't work perfectly:

Portrait Pictures in the published album are not shown completely

In the explorer of the desktop app they are not shown as portrait they are shown as landscape

Pictures 19 & 20

Postion infos are not avalable at least are not used in the album

Please upload 2 or 3 of the original HEIC images that are causing problems, and give us links to them. We can't investigate the problem when all we have to look at are the post-conversion images.

Have you tried the external tool correct image rotation?
