Thank you, Jeff. what happened is that the changes I was making were not showing up in the preview after I made the album. Once I uploaded it, the changes did show.
First, never use the integrated browser for previews. It is unreliable. Always use a real browser to preview your changes:
And when previewing the album in your browser, hit CTRL-F5 (Windows) to force a browser cache refresh (you can't force the integrated browser to refresh its cache, other than by exiting jAlbum entirely and relaunching it).
I disagree with the comment that the images do not change unless you delete them. Every time I add folders and images and make the album, it takes one of the new images the landing page image. I'll just have to keep my eye on that and reset it back to the image I want.
You can disagree all you like, but I have literally
never seen that happen. But if you just let the default setting take over, I suppose it could. Go to
Settings > Advanced > General, and uncheck
Use thumbnail for folder icon. This will, in effect, force you to make a conscious choice for what image to use, rather than letting jAlbum automatically grab the first image in the folder. And once you've made those manual selections, trust me, they won't change by themselves.
