Many thanks for the quick answers and advice!
I had already tried the suggested second way, but without success, the originals were sent again when I uploaded them again.
My host is jalbum.net. I obviously can't access it directly via FTP. That's why I can't delete anything on the server.
The only option is to create a completely new album - right? That wouldn't really be a solution, but it would be a workaround in this case without too much effort.

No need to create a new project. Just go to your profile page on this site, hover on the thumbnail for the album, and choose Delete album. That will delete the server copy.

From here:

See attached screenshot (I'm not sure which album you need to fix).

Now delete the local album from within jAlbum as I described above. Make, upload.

As long as you are not telling jAlbum to include the originals in the finished album, this will make things correct.

It is not related to the skin; it is jAlbum that's too shy to delete the originals from the album.
If under Preferences>Project you have Synchronise output directory checked (default) then unchecking include originals and then remaking the album it will remove unused originals from the album.

It leaves originals if in explore you have set use original or include original for any specific image.

Yes, that does work. I tend to forget about it because the synchronization still wouldn't touch originals, back in the good old days. In those days, you could plant the output album back into the source directory, so deleting originals could be disastrous. Things change. :)

I think I've found the cause: Among the uploaded photos was a series in which I scanned old negatives with my Z7II (full format, 46 MP) and then processed them with DxO PL8. The result was between 30 and 60 MB per image! These photos were always written unchanged to the "slides" folder in JAlbum. This is also the case now in a new test project. There I inserted another photo with 5 MB at the same time. This was reduced to 600 KB in JAlbum (setting 2000x2000 px).
Apparently JAlbum has a size limit for the images to be processed.
Thanks again for your answers!

jAlbum doesn't have a size limit for the image files. Eventually, you might run out of RAM, but that would produce a crash - the album would not be created.

I'm just trying to imagine what would cause a huge image to be written out to the slides directory. I know that GIF images are written out unchanged, to preserve their animation. But every other file format is scaled.

Just make sure you have not set the JPEG Quality to something greater than about 85%. That results in massively oversized output files, without any detectable improvement in the visible quality. The core warns you about choosing that kind of setting, and for good reason.
