Remarking question as unanswered due to "fit image" behavior now broken as described just above.
Confirmed.
Here's what happens: with the settings as shown, the slide image is never rendered larger than its native size. This is the desired behavior. But if the original is also included, it's back to rendering the images larger than they really are. Screenshots.

...open the index.html page directly in my browser.
Don't ever waste your time doing this. You will always get a broken album. It won't show you whether things are working correctly or not - it will always mislead you.
Oh I know, it's just force of habit... opening files directly.

More info: Interesting... 4 of 8 folders of an album exhibit the correct behavior (not scaling up larger) while the other four continue to scale up all their images. Refresh of page, rebuild of album, quit/relaunch browser doesn't affect this.
We're going to need a link to an album that displays this behavior, because it's virtually impossible. The code that runs on each page is identical - it can't do something different.
Yeah, that's what I would expect but that's not what I'm seeing – here's the album: (seeing consistent results now)
https://crimdom.net/photos/2024/India/index.html
(Don't look at this album now: I'm turning off originals again to stop it from scaling up images until this behavior gets fixed.)
With the introduction of the new option Tiger:Control Bar:"Display originals" unchecked and "Fit images by default" unchecked, half of these galleries are behaving as they should (not sizing larger, like Jodhpur page) and half are resizing larger than scaled image (like Delhi page).
Correction: They're all resizing larger than the scaled image.
But first, clear your browser cache - just refreshing the page won't be enough. In Chrome, for example, click the three little menu dots at upper right, and choose Clear browsing data. The history and cookies don't matter - just clear the Cached images and files.
Yeah, I know, I cleared my browser cache. Under Safari, it's "Reload page from source" with an option right click on refresh button. I also flushed everything (cache, cookes, etc for my web site from Settings:Privacy:Website Data)
UPDATE: I'm now seeing consistency across all the subfolders in the album. Something was cached after all. So the new "Display originals" is working but it's still scaling up from the scaled images despite the "Never scale up" setting of 1.0 for "Maximum enlargement".

That's not what I'm seeing. The Delhi images are scaled to 1800x1200px, and they're being displayed smaller than that - on a 1920x1080 monitor - as one would expect. The image bounds are, in fact, 1800x1200. Nothing inexplicable going on here, as far as I can tell.
But as I posted above, inclusion of the originals is triggering an as-yet unresolved Tiger bug. So, on a much larger monitor, you might be seeing the effects of that.

I'm seeing, for example, a 1600x1200 image displayed at larger than that resolution in the web browser window. (And it shows in the loss of clarity.) But the behavior is now consistent across all subfolders – so something was being cached that I missed clearing before.
So it's still scaling up from the scaled images despite the "Never scale up" setting of 1.0 for "Maximum enlargement".

So the new "Display originals" isn't working for me....
Because you're misunderstanding what's happening. Fortunately, Laza will understand.
If that option is not checked, it won't display the original instead of the scaled image, no matter what size the viewport is. That's working as intended.
The unresolved bug is that, with originals included, it is showing the scaled image at more than its native size. Different problem, entirely, but also problematic, because browser enlargement is rubbish.

Yeah sorry, I typed that too fast and have already corrected my reference to "Display originals".

Yes, it can happen the skin still thinks there's a larger image representation exists in that case. I'll check out the code.

Hello, I'm have the same issues as the original poster in that image are being enlarged against my will!
In Tiger v5.13 under "Lightbox" > "Control Bar" I have the "Fit Images by default" box unchecked and "Maximum enlargement" set to "1" (Never scale-up) (see screenshot). However, on large computer screens my images (780x580 JPGs) are being scaled-up to fit the screen.
In a duplicate project using PhotoBlogger with the same settings under "Lightbox"> "Main Image" my images do stay at their original size on large computer screens. So it works in PhotoBlogger but not in Tiger.
Am I doing something wrong? Have I missed a Tiger setting that will prevent my images being enlarged on large screens? I'd be grateful for any advice.
Tony

When I make an album with these settings the image stays small (1:1), but the skin shows the size toggle button unnecessarily, and when I reload the page, the skin enlarges the image to fit. I am checking out the code. Thanks for calling my attention to it!

It seems once including the originals was turned on, jAlbum will not remove them from the output directory after the option is turned off, and even the database will contain the references to these files. So Tiger skin thinks there is a larger version, and even though it does not use it (the "Display originals" option is turned off) its size will confuse the fit image function. I will tighten my code to avoid picking up these nonexistent originals.

Now I tried to reproduce the same - i.e. the originals included unnecessarily - in a newly created album to no avail. It happened in an older album I opened by chance. Anyway, now the code never tries to access the dimensions of the originals in case the option is turned off.
