Adding photos from Facebook

I have been creating Jalbum albums by adding files from my Facebook. But for the last few days when I try to get my photos from Facebook, I get this message in Jalbum: "App not active: This app is not accessible right now and the app developer is aware of the issue. You will be able to log in when the app is reactivated."

Is this working for anyone else? Any ideas?

Thank you!

Yes, we are aware of the issue.

Facebook makes a yearly (which feels like monthly) review of apps and they require us to provide the webpage where the app is used and explain how and when we delete the personal data "we collect".

There is no webpage, since it's a desktop client... They don't understand that concept...

And we don't collect any data, since the communication is directly between the client and Facebook servers. We don't even see the Facebook data...

When we haven't been able to provide this they have now disabled the app. Hopefully we'll very soon be able to explain the nature of the importer in a language they understand and the app will be enabled again.

But, usage of this app is quite low, and the effort required to keep it alive is quite high, so you might have to prepare for a life without this feature quite soon.

Facebook's ability to store and quickly retrieve billions of images and videos is a display of real technological brilliance.

Their user software, on the other hand, is some of the worst I have ever encountered. My local trash hauling company has a better IT staff.

Now the app has been reactivated by Facebook, so the importer works again!

That is until their next review in a year or so, when it will take weeks to explain to Facebook once again how a downloadable client works, and they'll deactivate it during that process..... :/

Facebook apparently reopened the review process so it has now been disabled again... :(
Working on solving this...

Just send them copies of your communication and tell em nothing has changed at your end. ;)

That might be the case.
We ended up in that endless review loop again where we provided all the info we can to Facebook on how our "app" works, but it doesn't fit Facebooks model on how it should work so they don't listen and request the same info again... After 10 roundtrips we had to focus on other stuff... We'll see if we can pick up from where we left... (But I have the feeling that it takes longer for us to administer the app than the total time it's used by our users.)

I'm not sure I understand the use case for the Facebook importer. No one should be using FB as a repository for their precious memories. FB cuts the image resolution drastically, and then, for good measure, strips out all of the metadata, including things like the date the image was digitized, the GPS coordinates, etc. This, of course, makes these images a poor choice for use in a jAlbum presentation.

For friends and family and others who are not on Facebook, I post the pictures on the web site too. Those folks aren't worried about what resolution or metadata. They just want to see the pictures.

But if you have the original digital images, those are what you should be using to build your jAlbum project.
