I'm getting more of a "mixed bag."
If there are no social media links, the title is centered, but the centering includes the up-arrow, rather than being centered on the text, which looks a little odd (center1.png).
When there are social media links, things get stranger (center2.png).

Different now (Plain 2.0.1), but....
The description is centered.
The title centering includes the nav arrow, which I still think looks like it's off center.
The sharing icons don't appear in the album at all.

Yes, that's really hard to center, especially when paging controls are also present.
Regarding the social buttons: Is this the White style? Aren't those icons appear in the sidebar?

Oh, I get why this is tricky. 
I still use a lot of floats to handle nav icon placement, and I always have to remember to create left and right div's of the same fixed width, to keep text material centered. Alas, CSS has never included a float: center;. Lord knows enough novice coders have tried to use it! 
Regarding the social buttons: Is this the White style? Aren't those icons appear in the sidebar?
Ah, OK. They're hidden down at the far lower left of the monitor, and the sidebar is body colored. So, I didn't notice them at all, simply because I was looking at the folder title area. In the Dark style, for example, they're up there with the title/description, and the centering is now proper.  |

What do you think of adding folder thumbnails when the folders go to the sidebar or the top bar, but on pages with no images the whole page looks bland? Perhaps adding an option to "Show folders anyway on pages with no images"? |

Yes, that's much better. Visually, we judge "centering" based on the big title text. The fact that the little nav icons extend further on one side than the other doesn't look "wrong" to us.
What do you think of adding folder thumbnails when the folders go to the sidebar or the top bar, but on pages with no images the whole page looks bland? Perhaps adding an option to "Show folders anyway on pages with no images"?
Oh, I hadn't thought about that! Yes, a page with no thumbnails at all will look like something's missing. It would send me straight into the developer's toolbar to investigate. And that's not an unusual situation - I suspect most projects that have folders have nothing but folders at each level, until you get to the bottom of the tree.
Let me ponder that for a bit. I'm in the middle of adding some complicated refinements (which no one will notice) to the latest feature I've added to most of my skins (which no one will notice). Skin development is so rewarding.  |

I've played with this a bit, and I think I'd just let the chips fall where they may. If a user has pages with only folders (not unusual), he can just choose Above thumbnails as their location. Then everything behaves perfectly well.
In fact, I think to avoid surprises, I would make that the default setting for the folder location.
(I think I'd make the default folder thumbnail image bounds larger than the regular thumbnail bounds, too.) |

I think I'll probably try to cram that setting, anyway, as using this kind of alternating layout can be more engaging, than having the same layout for both folders and image pages.
Still, I accept that this can be surprising at first look, so I'll choose a style that has a more plain look. E.g. Dark. (?)
