Avoid WebP

Here's my "tip of the day:" for the present, avoid choosing the WebP output format.

Don't select it as the only output format under Settings > Images > Advanced > Output format. Stick to JPEG.

And if you're going to use variants (more on that subject in a future thread), don't choose any of the WebP options.

Why? Remember, the only reason to use WebP instead of JPG is because it theoretically produces smaller files. But the current WebP processor in jAlbum, in order to produce images of a quality similar to that of JPG's, has to have its quality setting bumped up considerably. And guess what that does - it produces files that are often larger than JPG's of the same quality.

If the processor (a third-party plugin) is improved, this advice may change. But for now, it's an option that yields no benefits.

I see an advantage in using (occasionally) the Webp format, it is the possibility of making animated images of photo quality, unlike PNG or GIF.
But the Webp must be generated with a tool other than JAlbum of course.

And if you use an animated WebP in a project, you must right-click its thumbnail and choose Use original. Otherwise, jAlbum will convert it to a JPG, and it will lose its animation.
