CTRL + Spacebar behaviour

Good Morning

I hope I can explain this clearly...

I just thought I would ask, as its random behaviour when using CTRL + Spacebar,
or so it seems anyway... I make my changes and then use MultiMaker to upload them all.

I very often make changes to "Groups" of my albums and using CTRL + Spacebar
is a great way to open them all very quickly.

An example might be "Colours", I invoke the menu using CTRL + Spacebar by typing a common part of their filenames. select an album from the menu, then invoke it again and again, so opening all the "Colour" albums in the group.

Once I start though, the menu that drops down might either appear already loaded with the albums from the previous search, or it won't. Meaning retyping the string to invoke the menu again.

It would be really really useful, say, if I want to open 12 albums in a group, that after the menu is invoked the first time, it ALWAYS appears loaded upon subsequent CTRL + Spacebar use...

Now, retyping my initial search string isn't a problem, but not having to constantly retype my string to invoke the same menu again would be a very useful bonus.

The CTRL + Spacebar behaviour is somewhat random, so it seems, when put to use in this way.

What do you think ?

Regards Peter

Have you tried using the down arrow key when you are back in the search field?

Hello Rob

Actually I hadn't done that, and it works, the previous list is highlighted and reloaded.

Thank You.

Still, is it me only, but sometimes the down arrow wouldn't be needed
as the list loads automatically on subsequent searches with CTRL + SPACEBAR

And then, sometimes it doesn't and though the search string is always highlighted, there is no list.

I shall use the down arrow, thanks

Try to note what causes it to not work, then David will have something to work with.

Rob,

Ok, I think I may have worked it out, I think my timing when releasing the two
keys has been a bit off, I press CTRL and then SPACEBAR, and as long as I immediately release the SPACEBAR first, then release CTRL, the list appears.

Everything is working.

However, if I am going too quickly and release the CTRL first, it all goes a bit up the wall, with several results including the search box disappearing altogether.

So I guess its down to me really, but its a shame both these methods could not be caught...

Thanks for the help,

Regards Peter

The CTRL key is like the SHIFT key. If you press SHIFT, release it, then press "a", you don't get "A". The same is true of the ALT key.

I use an os (Mac) add-on called Sticky Keys, so I can press a key like SHIFT, ALT/OPT, CMD/CTRL and then let go, leaving it activated until I press another key. Never get those timing problems. :)

Instead of CTRL + SPACE try the TAB key, does that work?

Hello Jeff

Yes, and I have been faffing a bit I think, I really don't know why though, because I
just end up making life difficult for myself sometimes.

Thanks both for your help

Hi Rob,

I tried the Tab key and it isn't working for this.

Not to worry though, as I know what I was doing wrong now,
so all is fine.

I shall try to adjust the user behavior for the search bar so it displays the menu automatically when reactivated. One shouldn't really need to hit the down key, or retype to trigger it to reappear.

Hi David,

Thanks, this feature for opening albums is, for me anyway, one of
jAlbums best features, and one of many I might add.

I really like the search's ability to target partial parts of a string and not
need to start at the beginning of a word every time.

So much so, that I don't actually use the traditional way of opening my jAlbum
files anymore, as this function is sooo much faster.

Thank You for all the help I get in here

Hi Peter, Please try v31.1 now (available on our site). It has a fix for triggering the menu to show again.

Hello David

Yes I have already installed the new jAlbum update, as I saw in the release notes
that you had looked into it, many thanks, I have used it and I am getting lists
each time.

It really is a speedy thing to have and over a long time I have tried to ensure
my albums are in "Families", with names that mean they are always listed
one after the other in the listing.

All's fine so far

Thanks again for doing it

Regards, Peter
