Online Photo Album with full Desktop Functions?

Hej everyone...

I am using Jalbum now since 2012 with loads of pictures in our shared family gallery. Thats why I upgraded to 10GB for online usage and I just found out that it is not possible to have more than 50 Pictures in your Online-Photo-Album.
My Bad, I should have read it better before signing for 2 Years.

Right now I am using the Jalbum Desktop Version hosted on my own Domain and Webspace, but most of the time I am not using my Desktop, thats why my Jalbum is not getting updated the last 2 years.

My question is.
Will there be a Online-Photoalbum with all Desktop Functions?

Like Piwigo does it. You can have your Album Cloud Hosted on Piwigo-Servers or you can Install it to your own Webspace (PHP/MySQL). You can connect through every Browser / App and edit your album or upload pictures. It would be amazing if you could provide these functions.

Or will there be the most important Function to "Create Folders" and have more than 50 Pictures in your Online-Photo-Album?

Best regards...

Bülent...

"Online jAlbum" has always been just a pale imitation of the real desktop app. There are no plans to change this. It's a poor choice for handling a large, ongoing family album. It doesn't support folders, and the choice of skins and settings options is extremely limited.

Other apps, like Piwigo, are server-side applications. The original images are uploaded to the server, and all of the processing is done on the server. jAlbum has always been a client-side application. There is no need to upload all the massive originals to the server - all of the processing is done on the PC. Only the resulting album is uploaded to the server.

These are two different philosophies about how to manage and create web photo albums. They're not interchangeable.

The 50 image "limit" is just a recommendation, and an old one.
There is no absolute limit, so you can create albums with 100's of images. It's just that it gets slower the larger the albums is.
However, since we added that recommendation we've sped up the build process, so even a large album is made failry quickly (in less than 30 seconds, which used to take minutes).
But if you have 1000 images, you'll probably don't want to use online jAlbum.

You can always create multiple albums, instead of "folders".
Implementing a full blown online version of the desktop client isn't on our short term todo... We don't have those resources...

Okay, thank you guys for answering that quick.

You know, I would love to use your software, but I dont want to use it on my Desktop PC.

Do you think there will be a JAlbum Installation/Version that can be uploaded and installed to my webspace, so I can use your great Albumsoftware on my own Webspace accessing from any browser.

That would be amazing...

Kindest regards, Bülent...

jAlbum is built with Java. Very few web hosts allow users to run Java on their servers, because of the overhead that entails.

But if your host allows Java on its servers, you should be able to install jAlbum there. Of course, none of the "one click" installers provided by jAlbum will work - you'd have to handle the installation and configuration yourself.

ETA: Hosts that allow Java usually require you to have either a VPS or a dedicated server. It's rarely allowed on shared hosting.

I am not a Programmer, so I am not able to configure it and a dedicated Server is too expensive for my needs...

...but a Hosted Webspace Installation Edition for JAlbum sounds like a great future plan to me ;-)

Thank you for your answers and your patience...
