Jeff and Dave: Sorry that my dilemma is confusing, but we ARE problem solvers!
Jeff: I mentioned above I had downloaded and UPGRADED to the latest version before I began. So, it is not a previous version. (ver 31.2.1)
I will HAPPILY just hit the main button, yet with so many erratic uploads it behooved me to understand by looking what the main button options were via pulldown arrow. HA!
I will do a small rearrangement later and see if anything changes. I doubt it. It's the UPGRADE, I tell ya!
Thank you.

I'm sure it seems that way to you, but I'm always upgrading, including beta versions, and even the occasional "barely works" alpha version, and I've never seen this happen. David can't replicate it, either. That's the mystery.

Good news, I rearranged some files and it built in two mins.
I then uploaded and it ran through it in less than 20 seconds. As it ought to.
I don't have changes planned for well over a month.
Until then, THANK YOU.

OK, I'm back. It's been a busy Summer and Fall for me. I have rebuilt the gallerry by addinng to it three times since my last post....
ALL THREE TIMES it hung up and took over 5 hours. After a FULL rebuild it looks great. But, who likes a 5 hour update? Even that may glitch.
Before I hit GO, I managed to capture the process via a screen recording (Mac gem utility!), in case this helps.
https://youtu.be/8xIh8wSN03s?si=IeokuvtsXND1kV1z
It's unlisted but public.
Let me know what you think? It's rebuilding as I post this.
Thank you.

That must be a horribly frustrating experience. Thanks for sharing the video link. It's not that I've ever mistrusted your story. The problem is that we don't know how to reproduce it. Can you provide me access to your ftp account so I can upload test galleries to it? Hopefully, the error occurs with enough frequency that I can reproduce it. If so, email me at david@jalbum.net

One more thing: When this happens, what if you cancel the upload and then retry it? Is it again trying to upload all 16GB? If so, click the "Advanced" button in the top-right corner of the toolbar to also show files and not only folders. Now see if you can locate a file called "manifest.jmf". If you find it, rename it, then select the target folder and try the upload again. Is it now AGAIN trying to upload all 16GB?

Hi David,
Thanks as ALWAYS for your continued and courteous help.
Yesteday it stopped the LARGE upload at 1.3gb and hung. I have restarted it this morning.
I looked and CANNOT find the 'manifest.jmf' file within the Jalbum files. See attachment of screen grab.
I rebuilt the album, then did the upload. It claims to only have 25mb of data to upload, yet when I hit the upload button ir goes right into the 16GB upload window, where it runs and runs (until it hangs.)
Is my wifi janky? I don't know, could be.
Happy to send you my log in info via email. Of course this could (Will?) all be operator error. Or intermittent wifi. I CAN run direct from the modem by cable. Maybe that's better.
Please advise. Thank you

Sent log-in info via email.
I tested my Wifi: 227mb download, 10mb upload.
I switched to direct into the modem: 230mb download, 10mb upload (Same)
I rebuilt album again, and am uploading again. It's stalled numerous times. Let's see if direct connection make it through.
Curious about the 'manifest.jmf' file which is nowhere. Not on my computer after a rebuild and not out on the server.
Is this a problem?
EDIT: Ok, this still isn't working. It stalled at 4.39GB of info and won't move. Maybe tonight when there is very little disruption and I'm off. I've been working while it was loading.

The manifest file doesn't live on your PC. It's written to the server when the upload is finished. If it's not there, that means that the upload didn't complete cleanly.
Re: gear, when I was having bizarre uploading problems, it turned out to be a bad cable modem, not a bad router. No problems with downloads. You might try installing Speed Test, just to see if it reveals any issues. Probably not, but if the speed is "spiky," it could be a sign of trouble.

Hi Jeff and thank you.
I ran Speedtest from website and I installed the APP. Same exact readings.
I edited my above. It's stalled.
I have an Optonline (branded) modem, which is my Cable Service in Norwalk, CT USA. Unsure how to diagnose further.
Let me try doing it tonight when I'm not using internet. Click go and go off to bed.
Thank you.

I don't think this is an operator error. You probably have some network issues, but jAlbum shouldn't resort to uploading everything nevertheless, so that seems to be a bug.
It's anyway correct that you can't find the manifest file. It's deleted at the beginning of uploads and rewritten to the server after the upload. jAlbum even attempts to rewrite it if the upload is shaky, but naturally can't rewrite that file if the network is too shaky.
The purpose of the manifest file is to speed up consecutive uploads: That file contains a catalogue of all uploaded files, their dates and sizes. jAlbum uses it to quickly figure out the minimal amount of files to upload. Without it, jAlbum should manually compare the files on the server with the local files. This can take a couple of minutes, but when that is done, only changed and new files should be uploaded, not all 25GB. I currently don't know why that happens for you. With access to your account, I can investigate further.

Thanks David.
1. Yesterday, I tried MULTIPLE times to upload and it spit me out and stalled 4-5 times after an hour or about 1GB.
Today: I WAS able to get it to 'finish' and upload from 5:30am to 11:30 am this morningl. HOORAY!
But not until i t closed with this disappointing note See attached. However it DID write the manifest file. Again.
Jeff Tucker stated a potential problem with my MODEM. I am going to yank my modem and try to replace it. It's been years of acting erratic, and who knows. (I pay a rental fee from my Cable provider. THey can give me a new one.)
David: If you find something please share. You have my login info correct?
Sorry about all of this. Disappointing and confusing on every level.

Nope. That data is held private on your computer. You can email me at david@jalbum.net so I get access to try test uploads. I have a stable line here, but if the problem is caused by confused file dates, then I might be able to see that by first simulating a broken upload.

I had sent you log in info early yesterday. I have sent it again. It's probably in your SPAM folder and so now I sent it from my reliable personal account. Please check...
1. So....If the 'manifest' file is the information grand overlord, would it be a workaround for me to DUPLICATE and rename that file before I begin an upload?
As soon as it begins, and subsequently HANGS and ABORTS, that file is now deleted and gone. Right? This is why I can't find it after the problem occurs... And then it's lost it's record and reformats EVERY file.
But if I have a copy and then rename it BACK to the original, and begin anew, I get a second chance? Fingers crossed.
I can't spend days trying to get over a hiccup which disables this upload and the manifest file.
As I type the website is fine. But I am REALLY hesitant to do updates. This thwarts the whole purpose. You would agree.
Please advise. Thank you
