Add album search at the jAlbum level... not skin level
Posted: 17 Apr 23, 23:03

It would be very beneficial to have album search done from with in the jAlbum application and NOT at the skin level.

  • It makes search available to all albums not only a few and EVERY album needs that functionality

  • It's really a feature that the APP should control as a CORE functionality and then it would be able to take into account the features the Album is using to compile the correct search index

-- For example - Turtle / Tiger skins have search. When you pick a jAlbum feature of 'add only updated / changed files' to make the album creation faster... the resulting search index in Turtle / Tiger ONLY contains the files that were NEW not the entire album index.

-- You could then have more search related options like reporting features if it's controlled by the jAlbum application

Thanks for the consideration,
Dave

An album search can work only with skins that use a JSON database. Some of Laza's skins do, some do not. But no one else's skins use JSON at all. You can tell jAlbum to create JSON files regardless of which skin you're using, but if the skin isn't written to make use of them, it's just a waste of time.

This is a functionality that can be provided only by a skin.

(BTW, while it might not be clear to most users, the jAlbum core doesn't produce a single line of HTML, CSS, or Javascript. Virtually all album functionality is provided by the skins.)

Just for the record, my Missive and Sprint have search functions, using json data written directly as JavaScript instead of standalone Json files.

I use in my skins the database made with the Freefind website, see the FancyBox user manual.

For an example see my Algarve album.

This method can be applied in any skin which allows custom code.

Edit:

To select your own language, click the home button and select your language in the upper left corner with the Google Translate combobox. Next click on the ‘Straight to the. Photos’ menu item.

You can hit CTRL+Space and type what you're looking for (file name, title, comment, keywords). You can control what aspects jAlbum will look for under Preferences->General->Search

I'm pretty sure the OP wants to have a search capability in all albums, regardless of skin. I don't think he's talking about searching within the app. But perhaps I've misread the post.
