Panorama settings and Pan Speed

Clarification please because I'm a bit confused about Panorama settings!

I've decided to individually select the photos I want to display as panoramas. This is because the TIGER auto-detect will cause unwanted and irritating panning on narrow photos either vertically or horizontally. Also, you suggest in the info: Images / Image bounds setting and bump up the width to e.g. 6000 if you are using panorama pictures in an album.

However, this will bump up globally all images which is unnecessary and will increase the storage size of the album.

The screenshot shows what I have done by adjusting the image bounds of just one image.

Out of hundreds of images I've only got a couple that I would like to treat as Panoramas.

What I cannot find is how to slow down the pan speed and the other fault is that it does not usually start at the beginning of the photo. (Left-hand side)

The 6000x1000 px size will affect only the panorama photos, other photos are constrained by the 1000px height.

You can manually mark panorama images in the Edit mode / Image data panel.

The panorama images start with the center, as that is the most important part of an image, and anyway, all the images are centered in the lightbox.

The pan speed is constant, there's no special setting for that, but I can introduce some control for that.

Yes I agree.

You can manually mark panorama images in the Edit mode / Image data panel.

That is what I did. (as highlighted in yellow on the attachment)

The panorama images start with the centre, as that is the most important part of an image, and anyway, all the images are centred in the lightbox.

It is a moot point about which part of the image is most important. However. in a long group photo, it starts in the middle and pans to the right and stops. This completely misses out the left-hand side unless you introduce some movement by nudging with the mouse pointer. It then oscillates from side to side at tremendous speed.

The pan speed is constant, there's no special setting for that, but I can introduce some control for that.

That would be very useful. (to slow it down)

If the image stops at the right edge that's a bug. It should bounce back at the end. In my test, I saw both behaviors (in a single album), so I'll have to find out why.

I can foresee that making changes may have unwanted side effects! The first decision to make is do we want to control starting position and pan speed on all images that are marked as panoramas or to be able to control settings for an individual image?

1. In an Album of wide landscapes - these would suit a centre start and a faster pan speed.

2. In a large group of people the ideal start would be at the left and a slow pan speed.

It sounds to me like it could be a lot of hard work for you to do a tailored solution. If you choose global controls then reducing the pan speed and fixing the reliability of the return pan would be a minimum requirement for me. Otherwise, I'm just tempted to turn panorama mode off!

I guess I'll go with global settings. That's much easier to implement, and I guess most albums are not mixing landscapes with group photos.

That's what I said some time ago too. Starting a panorama in the middle instead at the most left point is not what I expected. I don't have many panoramas (yet), but for all of them it would make sense to start at the most left point and scroll to the right. An option to make that happen would be much appreciated. Thank you for providing these controls although the Pan Speed on Slow is still a little too fast.

I have never seen such a pano. Certainly not an everyday use.

Thanks - at least it is slower than it was and I can start the pan action from the left-hand side.
