Did you try the Java 14 version of jAlbum that David posted, above? Does that fix the problem?

I’m back home and downloading…
Launching…
Same problem: no file name, click on Title, click back to File Name everything is displayed but disappears as the cursor moves over them.

Tonight or tomorrow, I’m going to create a new user account to test.

That can't possibly make any difference, so don't waste your time on that.

David, see this post, possibly related:

https://jalbum.net/forum/thread.jspa?messageID=360633#360633

I can't quite sort out the conflicts between macOS versions, Java versions, etc.

This problem concerns the “output”, the web site. My pb is the applications user interface.

Main window before cursor movement

Main window after the pointer has flown over the top line

I'm sorry, but I don't understand. This thread, and the one to which I linked, are all about what happens in the application.

What happens on the website has nothing to do with Java versions at all - there is no "Java" in the album that is uploaded to the website.

Yes, we understand that. What we don't know is whether this a problem between the Mac and the Java version being used by the jAlbum application, or whether it's a problem with the "look and feel" modules in the application, or whether it's something else entirely.

It might be worth trying the ‘Nimbus’ look and feel. Hold down the 'Alt/Opt' key, when selecting a look & feel to select the legacy look Nimbus. Nimbus seems to have more colour settings than many of the other looks. A long shot but very little effort required.

I tried Nimbus and other look & feel, but unfortunately this does not solve the problem.

As it works with older jAlbum versions, but it doesn't help to try the java 14 version, let's assume this problem is relating to the new hi res painting of thumbnails: Open Preferences->Explorer and change "Thumbnail quality" to "Normal", then hit "Ok" to close the Preferences window. Now hit F5 to refresh the screen, is the problem gone now?

Also try changing the size of the thumbnails, i.e. the zoom level a bit. Any change?

Bingo! Problem solved, the thumbnails were too small. Thank you very very very… much.

Should this issue arise with other users it would be helpful to know what thumbnail dimensions work.

You're welcome. It's by design to drop file names if the thumbnails are below a certain size, but hovering the mouse shouldn't affect this

How can I find the dimensions? The cursor gives no info. If you zoom in they just appear and never disappear. So instead of going to Title and back, just zoom until they are shown.

Before and after Zoom level

It doesn't really matter, I was just curious. I'm guessing the zoom level you had it set to was right on the threshold of the filename being hidden. The way to avoid it altogether is to switch to 'Details' view, all of the texts remain visible whatever size thumbnails are used.
