Social tab under the Site
Posted: 15 Jan 23, 23:45

1) "Buttons" control group (there is no information about it on the help page):

I checked Facebook "Like" and Twitter "Tweet" but these buttons do not appear anywhere. Where are they supposed to be? Is there a demo album I can look at that has this implemented?

Please note: "Share On" works as expected (except for the Facebook, more on that below)

2) Sharing on Facebook (I am very new to Facebook):

I host jAlbum galleries on my own website (ABCD111.com). I have Facebook personal account and I created Facebook business page for ABCD111.com

What is this Facebook App ID supposed to be for? My personal FB page or FB Business page for ABCD111.com? What format does it follow (to make sure I got the right string)?

Are there detailed step-by-step instructions about how to generate FB App ID?

Also, is there an example album where FB sharing is used?

Most Social sites provide two types of interaction:
  • Share: which results in a new post on your social site timeline
  • Like (or Tweet) button: which might appear on your timeline, but it's rather made as feedback to the content creator on how many people like their site, and for the social site to follow your taste and help with personalized ads.

The latter method is used less frequently today, requires more code to run, and also results in more thorough tracking of your site visitors.

Facebook requires creating an App to be created on their developer site, which can be reached by clicking the "Sign up" link next to the App ID box. Unfortunately, I cannot give Step-by-step instructions for their page, as they change it frequently. As far as I understand, this requirement was made to mitigate the effect of anonymous fake news accounts after the 2016 US elections scandal.

Most of our sample albums have Facebook sharing, here's one: https://samples.jalbum.net/Unsplash/People/index.html

I have stopped using the Like buttons a few years ago. It's still available in my skins for backward-compatibility purposes.
