Easier for me :
I deleted the manifest.
Renamed some files that need changing name anyway. Recreated album.
Uploaded.
Jalbum recreates the manifest, (I see the displayed size of the album being slowly computed) and upload files.

Well, old files are still there !
look at the folder http://www.galinou.fr/album/plantes/arbres/coniferes/autres/slides/
"Thuya orientalis" has been renamed in "Platycladus orientalis" both versions are on the web site.

Well of course the old file is still there. You deleted the manifest file. That's how jAlbum does the synchronization. To repeat, jAlbum will not delete a file on the server if it doesn't know that it put that file there in the first place. It does that by using the manifest file. That file tells it that it put Thuya orientalis on the server, and that file is no longer part of the album, so it can now delete it. Without the manifest file, it doesn't know who put Thuya orientalis on the server, so it won't delete it!

jAlbum does not do a simple, blind mirror, deleting any file it finds on the server whose origins are unknown to it. That would be dangerous.

The only way to get things properly synchronized again is to delete the album on the server and upload it again, using the jAlbum uploader. Then, never make any manual changes to the server contents - always let the jAlbum uploader take care of it.

Trust me, I use this for my own large family photo album, and it always keeps everything properly synced. But you have to use it every time - otherwise, things get out of sync, and jAlbum can't straighten it out.

I think I understood.

Then, if I delete ALL files that are in the site and not local, including manifest, and then upload again, the manifest will be created correctly, right ? because all local files will be included into it, and no other file exist on the site.

Am I right ? (sorry, I guess I do not understand in a fast way...)

David, while it might be a little dangerous, it might be worthwhile to offer a true, dumb mirror option, to account for the situation in which someone has used something like FileZilla just to do one upload, resulting in a non-synched manifest file. In short, it would say, "I'm going to upload everything in the current local album to server directory X, and anything that's sitting in directory X that isn't in the current album will be clobbered."

Usually, if the album is destined for a subdirectory of the domain, that would be safe. If it's targeted to the root of the domain, however, it would usually be a bad thing to do, since that's where the server is keeping all sorts of other account-related files (especially things like .htaccess). In fact, it could be very ugly, indeed. :(

Or maybe do the mirror for all files and folders except the top level of the album. A server wouldn't be stashing files in res, thumbs, or slides, for example, and probably not in any album subfolders at all.

Just thinking out loud, since I've been in this situation myself.

Finally I could understand everything and my album is OK now.
BTW, Jeff's idea of having a "mirror" option for the album seems nice to me.

Thank you for your patience.
