Of course, you could just take control of it yourself. Don't shoot a static pano - shoot a video, and you can control the panning!
The problem, of course, is that people shoot pano's for different reasons, and in different ways. My "Louvre" example, above, is a good illustration. If the page initially presents the image showing the far left side, you might not even know what the subject of the picture is. And if the album doesn't do any automatic panning, the visitor might never know what the rest of the image looks like.

One word: tripod.
Or even better:

One word: tripod.
I own one, but during these trips the tripod mounted on the passenger seat to shoot the movies during I drive. And dismantling the tripod every time only to shoot a video outside and then mount it again in the car, way too much effort. Ok, ok, ok, yes, I have to buy another tripod.
Or even better:

You laugh, but if you were truly serious about your videography....

As autopano is an extra feature, the normal way an image was presented is placed at the center, and I had to add the auto pano at this point. I wouldn't say starting a panorama at the center is "bad". It depends. With architecture photos it's better, with nature panoramas starting at left is probably better.

...my opinion is, that the panorama should definitely start at the left.
I've taken your arguments to heart. Look at the second bullet on the Mercury 67 release notes (same option coming to Jupiter). Let the user decide!

Laza, you are absolutely right, my wording with "bad" was not correct, because it depends. This makes it even more difficult to give a good solution for all situations. I'm counting on you.

Sounds like the deluxe solution for the album creator. I would go for this feature in Tiger too.

I'm coming back to this thread again. After more than two years there was improvement with the panoramas, regarding speed and start point. Very cool!
But there is still something which could be better. Showing a panorama, a big panorama, during a slideshow will never finish to the end and the slide show skips to the next picture. This looks bad. Laza, do you think you can do something to cure this? Thanks in advance. Cheers, Markus

You can apply individual slideshow timing now in Tiger skin. (Edit mode -> Image data -> Slideshow timing) This isn't the perfect solution, as the complete roundtrip depends on how wide the monitor is, but it could give some extra time for panoramas.

Thanks Laza. I'll check that after updating to the newest Tiger-version.
