Skin page layout

The skin pages layout is not optimal on smaller devices, like an iPad in portrait mode. The description field is about 17 characters wide; a long description produces a very long column. The description and homepage titles impinge on the texts of those fields.

It's actually better on a phone than on a tablet.

But I have to wonder how many people would be visiting skins pages with a mobile. After all, you can't download and install a skin on such a device.

Just needs the break point tweaking.

I normally have the iPad in landscape mode, it looks better but the description is still to narrow. It would look better if the description was above the release notes, instead of to the right.

It should look good on any device, after all making responsive pages is what jAlbum does (mostly).

I have downloaded skins and later accessed the file from my Mac. Whilst not ideal for writing code it is perfectly fine to read the files in skins, for various nefarious reasons. ;)

That's coupled with the fact the most of the descriptions are much too long, my own included. I'll bet most users just look at a couple of sample albums and say, "That looks pretty good - I think I'll try this one."

I agree. The download link for the current version is up top already, so access to the various releases isn't all that important, and could be placed last on the page.

I’m thinking of just writing ‘What are you waiting for, this is awesome!’ Or maybe ‘Don’t follow the herd, use this instead.’ :)

Hmm.... Yeah... There is a weird 3 column layout between 641 and 1024 pixel width... I'll adjust that!

I have now thrown around the sections a bit, and changed the scaling behaviour. Better?

On a desktop monitor, the layout is best when the description is no longer than the features list to its right. Perhaps this can serve as a hint to the more verbose among us. ;)

In any event, I'm sure this will bring fame and fortune to skin developers, which are long overdue. Especially the "fortune" part.

Much better, thanks.
Have a look at a skin with the browser width just below 1358px to just above 1396px.
On Missive, at least, the releases are on the right within those limits and on the left either side of them. Probably never be seen by a casual visitor, so maybe not worth any more effort.

I'm not seeing any layout change from a width of 684px to infinity. Releases are always on the left.

For me, that shift of the "releases" to the right occurs in the 648-683px range. Outside of that range, they're on the left.

But yeah, fringe case.

ETA: And the break points are different, depending upon how long the description is.

ETA: And there can, in fact, be two different width ranges in which the shift occurs. All very puzzling.

I've fixed it for my skins :)
I just changed the description to reduce the text. My skins:
Missive: A written message. A letter.
Journal: A personal record of events, an official log of proceedings.
Polyglot: speaking or writing in different languages. Versed in multiple languages.
Sprint: A burst of speed. A short fast race.

After a few drinks, I'll probably do the same. :)

But I face a conundrum. Which of my skins should be described simply as The Best Skin There Is? Decisions, decisions....
