There's nothing wrong with the original images. They're in the correct color space (sRGB). They're progressive JPG's, which is a little unusual, but that shouldn't matter. I never get a failure - the thumbnails and slide images look fine.
First, go ahead and install jAlbum 25.1.1 - the earlier problem with it has been fixed.
Next, let's deal with the Java heap space issue. With the default settings, this shouldn't be happening - the originals aren't massive. Try increasing the amount of RAM reserved for jAlbum use:

Then (and these are just guesses) try turning off hardware acceleration - see
Settings > Images > Advanced > Attempt to use hardware accelerated scaling. And try turning off the
Settings > Effects > Auto > Auto Contrast and
Auto Levels options.
Maybe David will recognize this symptom. I haven't seen it since the days when CMYK images were
not supported, and these aren't CMYK images, in any event.
