Add a window Supported audio file types to the preferences window
Posted: 23 Sep 21, 09:04

On the Tools / Preferences / Advanced tab you see a window with Supported video formats, which is nice and clear. It is possible to add there even more video file formats and you can remove video file types.

For audio files, the situation is unclear: It is not documented which audio file types can be used and show up in the Explorer window.
Nerds can find the information in file filetypes.xml , but normal users will not find that.
The situation is even worse if you like to use an audio file type which is not listed in file filetypes.xml: in that case you have to create your own filetypes.xml file in a Config / system directory. This is of course very user unfriendly for normal users.
But even if you known how to add an audio file type it will not always work: for instance if you add an audio file type ogg it will not work, because ogg is also in the video formats window.

So my proposal is to add to the Tools / Preferences / Advanced tab a window with 'Supported audio formats'. In that case it is clear for everybody which file types are supported and you see where you can add other formats. If you add in that case a file type ogg, jAlbum can give a warning and remove the ogg file type from the Supported video file types list.

To get a consisted system it would be nice to add there a list of supported image file types but this should of course be read-only.

Finally it would be nice to add a window for 'Other supported file types' where a user can add his own types like what I do with gpx files.

The list of supported file types can be seen via Menu>Tools>External tools>Show supported file types
