Do you miss Matrix?

I retired the Matrix skin a couple of years ago because it had serious responsiveness problems, things that I simply couldn't overcome. But there were some aspects of its "look and feel" that I've always missed.
Of my current skins, Saturn has been the most Matrix -like. With the addition of separated slide captions, it got closer. With the addition of thumbnail surrounds, it got even closer, though getting the surrounding box to include the caption was a nut that I couldn't easily crack.
Saturn 68, just released, takes it another step. It now defaults to having a colored thumbnail box, which now includes the thumbnail caption (if any). If you want the "look" of prior versions of Saturn, it's generally one click away - see Saturn > Index Page & Icons > Boxless style.
Lots of other changes under the hood, with some cleaned-up layout, more efficient scripting, and so on.
You've got to ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya', punk?

I had an album made with matrix many years ago that I couldn't update to Neptune (as I did with most Matrix albums made iin the last year or so) and maintain any of the general appearance. Based on Saturn being the closest to Matrix I switched the album to Saturn at version 67 several months or so ago, with only a few tweaks needed to get very close to the Matrix version. When Saturn 68 recently came along I finally got around to running the Saturn 67 album on Saturn 68 today. Big mistake on my part.
I have attached a partial thumb shot of the album with 67 and with 68, with no changes in any settings between making the album each way. To use 68 was I supposed to make a bunch of settings changes from 67?

Not nearly as catastrophic as it would appear. It's partly the result of using a heavily customized style that had some leftover "bad" values, along with the disappearance of some options
First, the easy one, something that behaves somewhat differently in v68. Head for Saturn > Thumbnails > Images, and check Grid.
Second, there are no more beveled borders. So, the skin then used the color you had specified for regular borders, #ddaaaa. This is the "bad" setting - that color has nothing to do with the color scheme of the project, but it was in the settings, so the skin grabbed it. I'd suggest #997846 for Border, and #705809 for Border hover.
Third, there's no longer a setting for the thumbnail padding color - it's always transparent. Applying it to things like the title bar is an exercise in CSS misery, so I just let it go, rather than fight with it again. It could be handled with some custom CSS, but I'd leave it alone for the moment.
The fourth one is an oversight on my part. There's no longer a setting for the color of the thumbnail surround. It's been replaced by a more universal setting for the color of the boxes on the pages. I should have grabbed the thumbnail surround color and glommed onto it for the box color. My bad. I'll fix that in the next release. In any event, Saturn > Custom > Index Pages > Boxes, and enter #bbad87.
That should get you close. Screenshots attached, using my own images, of course.
One thing that's not immediately obvious is the biggest change. In v67, if you chose a thumbnail surround, it didn't include the thumbnail caption. In v68 it does, which is what Matrix did. In your example, there are no thumbnail captions, so that facet of the change is not manifest.

BTW, lighten up on the shadows! If you want a little more drama, go lighter, but also wider. Attached, 30% at 15px.

I played around with the border color/width/spacing/rounding (as well as the Grid option) for quite a while to understand the 68 settings better and to get close to what I had with 67, and what I have now is quite satisfactory. The loss of the padding color option (in lieu of the now always transparent) is hardly noticeable, particularly when the padding is made very small.
Thanks for the changes and the guidance to understand the changes.

The odd results you ran into pointed me to a couple of "fix old project" changes that needed to be made. I'll probably release version 69 shortly. Anyone using the Custom style will run into it.
In short, the new version includes settings for the box color and box text color, which didn't exist at all in prior versions. Upon loading the project in v.68, those reverted to default settings, which is a gray box with black text, probably not what the user wants. In the next version, if you're coming from a v.67 or earlier project, it will make a better guess at what those colors should be, by picking up some of the other colors in the project. No way to guarantee they'll be right every time, but I can certainly get closer.
It can't address the "weird border color" problem from your project, since that really was the border color you had specified, even though you weren't actually using it in the project!

The "grid" option needs pictures. If you're not using fixed shape thumbnails, and you're not putting captions under the thumbnails, and you have a mix of aspect ratios, it's sometimes better to keep all the thumbnails evenly spaced from each other, as in nongrid.png. This means that there might be a different number of thumbnails on each row. If you choose the grid option, each thumbnail gets the same width, as in grid.png.
Once you show captions, the grid is forced. Otherwise, you can end up with the caption for a portrait mode image doing waaaay too much wrapping. See withcaptions.png.
If you've also chosen boxless, the difference becomes even more dramatic. Without the wrapping box, and with no captions, the grid option looks truly lousy, as in lousy.png.
But, as developers often say, "I can give them the tools, but I can't give them the good taste to use them well."

Sometimes when I am experimenting with different colors for different elements of a project I will change the color of an element to a very different color (even though I ultimately do not plan to use that color) so I can quickly see what the change affected. That's why the pink regular border color (the #ddaaaa) was in the project. I decided to use the beveled rather than regular border, but never went back to return the regular border color to the original value. Having long since forgotten that I did that color experiment with the regular border (since I didn't use it), that's why I was so surprised (shocked?) to see the pink border in my first conversion from 67 to 68.
Anyhow, it led to a good learning experience.

My test projects are loaded with those kinds of weird choices, and for exactly the same reason - it's how I can ensure that custom colors are being picked up correctly. If the PDF background isn't a shocking blue, I know that I've missed some CSS!
