Other [Linux user]s BEWARE: there are permission issues with the .json file.
FIFY. No such issues in other OS's.

It's a feature of Linux: more security. Keeping miscreants from monkeying with system files. I appreciate Linux work to keep a secure computing environment. It's a BIG REASON that I switched long ago. Of course I do have the ability to dual boot into Win for those rare times when something is not supported by Linux. Maybe once a month or less.
Win seeks security thru obscurity, hiding system files, etc.

I have not picked up an infection or unwanted program on a Windows machine in over a decade, and I have no security software beyond what the system provides. I scan periodically with MalwareBytes, and it has never found anything.
Today, the "Windows isn't secure" complaint is a myth.

David,
Gimme a hint! I have changed many different color options in the .json file and most have no effect that I can discern. I need a magic decoder ring.
WHAT parameters affect the color of text in, e.g., the
- List of folders and subfolders in Recent Projects
- Text being edited in a Comment box (NOT the rendered color after Make).
Thanks.

Remember that you will probably have to close and relaunch jAlbum to see any color changes that you've made. jAlbum probably reads the file when launched, but then doesn't go back to it, so if you're editing it, you won't see the results of your edits.
Pro tip: change the color you think you're targeting to #ff0000, so the effects will be obvious. "Ah, this changes the color of that!" Still tedious to work your way through all the settings, but you won't be squinting at the monitor to try to detect what's changed.

Yep: did that.

Did that too. I even changed all codes that render as gray to #ffffff (white). The only color change was the background for an active folder name in the Projects list.
Probably won't get back to this until tomorrow. Thanks.

I like the blue highlight / background in project list but it's not what I need. I wan to be able to READ the project list more easily. Text is still gray on gray and has little contrast. See attached.

Dirty little secret: for those of us with aging eyes, all dark color schemes are hard to read. What's easier to read? Black text on a near-white background. In other words, the system default.
You might also want to experiment with increasing the jAlbum font size from its default setting of 11.

I prefer the black background and not filling the screen with a lot of white. The font size change will probably help but I like to keep most of my real estate available for exploring / editing. Hopefully David will elucidate more.
P.S. <grin> How'd you guess that my eyes are old? </grin>

I'm 68, with a strong prescription (+3.75 for distance, +6.25 for reading), and I can read the project list entries in One Dark, with font size 11, from three feet away from the monitor.
This suggests to me that the problem here isn't the color schemes, but is, instead, your vision.

Did some poking around. The text color for the project list is ui: Button: foreground (line 43), and the field behind the entries is ui: *: background (line 9).

The target for the project folder names is not in the jAlbum Dark theme, so I have no idea how to target them. What I did was to replace all of the #number values to red, then all of the #A to #F numbers to red. None resulted in those texts changing.
