Fullscreen and slideshow?

Again, for a user who is inexplicably reluctant to post here....

Any chance of a one-click-from-the-index-page option to go fullscreen and kick off the automated slideshow? Now, it takes several clicks to get there - click thumbnail, click fullscreen, click play.

And if that can be done, can that also kick off the background music? I know browsers block autoplay music, but I would think that clicking the proposed "give me a fullscreen slideshow with music" button would be sufficient to get around the limitation.

ETA: I'm asking for someone else, obviously. The fact that none of my skins supports this kind of combination tells the story. ;)

Yes, a sensible idea. I will implement this functionality, but now I'm into releasing Photoblogger first, then Projector, Animatics and Lucid next with improved custom pages. Then comes Tiger 3.0.

Today you can start a Story slideshow automatically by attaching #slideshow to the url. Adding a button in a custom section with a link "#slideshow" might do the trick, though I haven't tried it.

The latest Story release gets at least part of the way there, with a single click to go from the splash page to the slideshow. Triggering fullscreen at the same time would be a nice addition - maybe only if the user has checked the box to provide the fullscreen button, which would sort of indicate that he wants fullscreen.

The user I've been emailing with would also like that click to kick off the music, but I can't really get behind that one. I've come to dislike background music in albums, and I think it's fine that the browsers are now at least preventing it from kicking off by itself. I offer background music in only two of my skins (out of 9), and they're the oldest ones....

Perhaps launching the slideshow in full screen on mobiles could be an option, but desktop full screen is something I like better managing myself.

The automatic music supposed to work if you tick "Controlled by slideshow".

Ah, yes, that's behaving as expected now.

As you probably know, I'm not a big fan of fullscreen, especially on a desktop. It requires too much manual intervention to get back to being in control of what's happening. I always want to have access to the browser and OS controls.

(ETA: I don't like the way macOS handles "side-by-side" application windows, for the same reason. I'm always left thinking, "now how do I get out of this mode?")

I would like to propose a possible solution - use the existing code for a fullscreen option.

Currently there is a setting in Story - Function - "Show full screen button".
Let's assume this is checked. Then in the Hero, there is a button for the full screen but it is below the initial viewing area where the slide show button is visible.

Would it be possible to add another check box using the existing full screen button action only this time it is a sub option for Story - Design - Hero - Buttons - Slideshow Button ** add a checkbox " engage Full Screen for Slideshow".

If engaged then the user can disengage the existing full screen button which seems to be visible all the time after the initial Hero display if desired.

I know this thread is kind of dated, but it seems to be the most 'current' with regards to getting an album to auto-magically launch as a slideshow and have background audio start as well.

I did see the post about appending #slideshow to the end of the album URL and that does start the slideshow, but the background audio doesn't start and the slideshow won't go full screen, even though the appropriate options are selected.

Any workarounds or something I may have missed in the skin settings?

If the visitor clicks the "Start slideshow" button, the slideshow will start, the browser will go full screen and the background audio will play. A web page cannot do the same automatically, without a user action. This is a strict policy every browser follows for a few years. If this could be circumvented that would be a bug, and they'd fix it immediately. (Going full screen without the user's permission carries security risk, meanwhile starting background audio without permission raises privacy concerns.)
